My last few weeks have been very leisurely, work-wise. Lots of people out on vacation, not much self motivation.

Natter 77: I miss my friends. I miss my enemies. I miss the people I talked to every day.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I am starting my transition to my new role or tasks or whatever this week. Supposedly, anyway. The thing that worries me is I'm not giving up any of current tasks for a couple of months, just learning new stuff. I have had a lot of slack time, honestly, so it will probably be fine but I will certainly miss the slack time. And maybe by January I will actually know what my job is, which would be nice.
Getting new things without giving up the old is BS, -t!! Hope it works out.
I tried to get breakfast and coffee, and the first place I went was closed mondays. I ended up at the coop grocery nearby getting stuff from their hot bar. Work has a lot to catch up on for me being gone only one day!! Which makes me less wanting to work, right now. :(
Also people may find the story and response at Slate very relevant to your interests:
(Interestingly I think I might know the author third hand, as a friend’s ex’s new partner (though not new because it was 20 years ago but whatever. Because of course)
Good luck with that -t.
askye I really hope you get some relief.
Happy birthday weekend meara! I’ve been trying to get away camping but it turned out to be in the 90s this weekend so just as well. We got cheated out of a big storm that hit all around us last night. Not here though.
There is, as far as I can tell, no difference whatsoever between grits and polenta except what you call them.
We grew up with a third variety, cornmeal mush. Boiled, chilled, sliced and fried, often with bits of pork. Served with butter and or syrup. Anyone else have this? It was a favorite from my New Jersey side.
Happy birthday, meara! I hope you get to enjoy it a little?
I filed an emergency maintenance request for a leaking kitchen sink (water starting pouring out of the garbage disposal unit) on Saturday evening and have not heard back yet, so I just called. Was told nobody had contacted me because it's not an emergency and technically I have functioning kitchen. Even though I had to clean up a small flood of water and have a bucket under the garbage disposal and a bucket in the sink so I can empty it out in a functioning drain.
While I understand where they're coming from and someone is coming to replace it on Tuesday morning, I'm really not pleased with the lack of communication. A lot of my job is escalation management and telling me what to expect is a pretty basic component.
That is fair shrift! I had that happen (garbage disposal failed and had to be replaced, water was pouring out of it). They ought to be able to do it quickly! And if they can’t, what is their timeframe. Booo. It takes like, an hour. (Ah, I see Tuesday. But still! That’s slow)
That's some bullshit maintenance, shrift.
Happy birthday, meara!
Our house is filled with the sound of cursing in two distinct yet equally indistinguishable accents: Tennessee & Ireland.
Because the window guys are finally putting our turret windows in.
Turret windows hooray! Lack of communication on kitchen leak boo!
