So, how was your summer? Mine was fun. Saw some fish. Went mad with hunger. Hallucinated a whole bunch.

I'm glad you got to see the main library! That building is really lovely, and our whole public library system is excellent.

It was great! Such a beautiful building and courtyard and murals! I was there at close and the librarians were also really great and kind about kicking out un-housed folks as well. Even though I had a little hike to get to the Music City Center, I was actually glad my hotel was in a little more of a neighborhood. I almost wished I did something even more immediately outside of downtown, but walking around my hotel early morning I got to see people out walking their dogs and babies which I found very comforting.

I was so lucky I was so close, because it was the one thing I wanted to see because I love libraries and it would have been complicated if it wasn’t a one minute walk!

Not only that, but Tennessee cast the deciding vote to ratify the 19th Amendment, and it all came down to one state representative, Harry T. Burn, who wrote to his mother to ask for advice on what to do, and she told him to be a good boy and vote for women's suffrage. I love that part!

I remember that story, but did not remember it was Tennessee. The library and signs outside were very informative

Also Yay Portugal! Wow!

I also ran into a faculty member at the Chicago airport going home and he was on our flight! How weird.

Our wings are not tired.

First, sending happiest birthday wishes to Plei! I hope the day is filled with love and laughter.

Nashville is still on my really need to visit some day list. And Portugal! Have a blast, Kate.

Tom, I hope you are able to get out and enjoy the beautiful day. (Currently 41F cold here!) May your energy return soon.

I passed on a balloon fair in Memphis today

I always wonder whether my fear of heights would kick in. I have no issue whatsoever with flying, but have all out terror on bridges or most other heights. I can climb bald mountain here and stand on the top gazing out at the view, but can't climb 8 steps up the fire tower on top. Height fear is not rational. I remember talking to Ed (DXM) about our shared horror and being plastered to the interior wall when going to the observation floor of the Twin Towers. Amazing we didn't succumb to heart failure right then and there.

{{JZ and Hec}} I have trimmed down my book collection considerably. I'd hoped that my son would take a bunch, but he wants to go through them all and only take his favorites. His GF wants All The Books. We'll probably sit down and sort through. I need to find a good home for the rest. Libraries and donation centers don't want them anymore. Maybe a used book store?

Yikes, just noticed the time! I need to get dressed and go pick up my sister and get to the gym. Have a good day all! Happy Father's Day to the great Buffista dads.

Laura, I’m that way too—I think for me it has to do with looking out versus straight down. On a plane no issues. But a second story balcony? Eek, suddenly I distrust the railing.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

People, I'm afraid of. Heights, not so much.

Although, the glass tourist attractions (bridges, walkways) where they simulate visually and audibly the glass cracking...that would freak me out. That's just mean.

I am afraid of heights, but despite my travel anxiety, the plane is fine. The glass elevator at my hotel was terrifying!

I learned from 23 and me that I was likely to be afraid of heights because I was genetically predisposed to have poor proprioception, which is a poor sense of where your body is without using your eyes. Which actually explains a lot- grated bridges, amusement park rides, ladders, balance beam. But planes are fine? Just feels like riding a bus.

My travel anxiety has to do with things going awry, which I think my traveling companions did not understand- they thought I was scared of flying itself, but I was more anxious because I don’t know what I am doing and it is unfamiliar. I think because at work I am generally a creative outside of the box thinker for, they don’t realize how much I rely on my day to day existence being very routine and comfort zone for me.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Happy Plei day! This is the first week of my summer vacation and it will be delightful not to get up at 6:30. I love my job (I’m a paraprofessional in a life and work skills program for young adults with Autism, for those who may not know), but not the 8 to 3 hours. It’s so hard to go to bed at a reasonable time when you have night owl tendencies. But now I have weeks and weeks to stay up late and sleep until 9. Heaven.

Scrappy! Hello!

Happiest of Plei Days, Plei.

I love my job (I’m a paraprofessional in a life and work skills program for young adults with Autism, for those who may not know

I did not. That is awesome. Do you happen to have any contacts, suggestions, etc. for a program like that for the Metro DC area? Or where a reputable place to research that might be? For a friend with a son who is about 22 and struggling; she's looking at options right now.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Happy Birthday Plei!

Got my hair cut in a salon for the first time since the pandemic started. Usual cut-took off a few inches and evened things up. (The hairdresser blew it out straight, so we'll see how long it is when I let it air dry as I usually do.)
