Angel: You know, I killed my actual dad. It was one of the first things I did when I became a vampire. Wesley: I hardly see how that's the same situation. Angel: Yeah. I didn't really think that one through.

move out and draw fire

Do you still have the list of terms?

Somewhere, I will look for it. It was the usuals: leverage, synergy, center of excellence, etc. There were a few that turn out to be fairly unique to this demographic ("let's circle the wagons" misused to mean "let's get together and coordinate on that;" "the camel's nose under the tent;" "azimuth check;" and "tour d' horizon;" "close to the flagpole") but most were business drivel (KPIs, playbook, dodged a bullet).

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

My favorite jargon joke is renaming silos "cylinders of excellence."

ugh new report from my parents' place. Currently 16 staff out positive. 4 residents' tests from Monday are positive. They have cancelled housekeeping in the apartments for the time being.

Ooof. Continued good thoughts.

I’ve never heard those last few starting with the camels nose. What do those even mean?

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Camel's nose is a variation on "thin end of the wedge."

I can't remember the source, but I seem to recall hearing about this phrase used in all earnestness: "We must strategize our conformity."

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

The jargon convo reminds me that Google recently notified me they were making some change to something (Drive, maybe, one of those cloud things I use all the time and don’t think about a lot) to better align with industry standards and I was just so affronted. You used to be cool, Google. You didn’t let anyone else set standards, you made up your own. What happened to you, man?

not your mom's socks.

Sending continuing good wishes, msbelle

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Continued health~ma to your parents, msbelle.

So it looks like my senator (pthui, if only I could never speak of him again) is trying to mess with Fair Use. Not sure what fanficcers and TikTokers ever did to him, but there’s nothing here that seems actually helpful to, say, professional authors getting screwed by Disney and lots that could get AO3 taken down. [link] It’s not up for a vote yet, and AO3 legal is on it. But damnit, can’t we keep one nice thing in 2020?

JenP - Dec 24, 2020 8:39:28 am PST #1558 of 30000

Going to the store to get stuff for my mom's fudge recipe. That's about the only productive thing I plan to do today other than wrap some presents and make dinner. Well, and make the fudge.

Topic!Cindy - Dec 24, 2020 8:43:31 am PST #1559 of 30000
What is even happening?

Don't forget to eat the fudge, Jen.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Thank you all for the ~ma and the good words. Sam had surgery yesterday; the doctor said it was "tricky" but so far he's doing all right. They removed two "masses" from the liver and replaced the stent, and put in two drains. Turned out the problem was the stent the previous surgeon put in - it was the wrong size and it was leaking. Leaking bile, I assume. They're probably sending him home tomorrow. He'll need home health care. If not for Covid taking over all the hospital beds, he might have stayed in hospital. He'll probably rather go home, anyway.

I don't know if the "missing" X-rays were ever sent to the new surgeon, but it doesn't matter now; they probably took new ones anyway.

Continuing kitty~ma for Batcat, Shir.

Poor little Miley toes.

More health~ma for msbelle's parents and the whole facility.

Also, may I suggest an egg of Silly Putty is always welcome in a stocking.

I like that idea. I put a little jar of Play-Doh in all our (adult) stockings one year. That was fun. Our stockings always have chocolate, usually Ghirardelli squares, and just a bunch of random small things like flavored lip balms or keychains. Sarah loves to give "weird" foods; one year it was a package of dried crickets.

I despise corporate jargon.

Percy the Emo Cat is standing in the kitchen wailing. He wants me to come in there and pet him. Ah, here he comes to see if I'm still on the couch. Yep, and back to the kitchen to wail some more. Here he comes... nope, back to the kitchen, and wail. He wants to be petted IN THE KITCHEN, human. So of course I went in the kitchen and picked him up and loved on him until he had enough and got down and left. To go sleep on MY bed. I'd like to be reincarnated as a spoiled happy housecat.
