Pix take care of yourself!
YAY Matilda and softball.
Oh sweet baby jesus- I'm chatting with E and playing Minecraft and I realize he's kind of "singing" Ice Ice Baby-- I'm like...wha??? WHY? He tells me hasn't really listened to it in 3 years .. and asks what I have against it.
I wasn't sure where to start so I started with Vanilla Ice ripping off Queen ... "Who??" E asks. Who is Queen. Who is David Bowie. So I found a video of Under Pressure and sent him a link. E likes music but he doesn't really listen to music a lot (I was like that at 13) so I guess I can't be too gobsmacked he doesn't know Queen but he knew Ice Ice Baby before Under Pressure.
It should never be underestimated how much harder it is to care for a sick relative when they're fighting against you rather than along with you. Love and hugs to you, Kristin.
Oh, this. Yes. Thank you, Matt. And thanks everyone who offered comfort. I'm almost on the ground in Fort Lauderdale and have learned from Dad's friend that he doesn't want me to take him to any doctor appointments because it is demeaning. I just flew 3000 miles to be with him for them. It makes me sad and angry and just so full of grief. I extended this trip to Tuesday. I just don't know now if I'll be taking leave all at once or will have to do something staggered.
I hate all of it. Anyway. I don't hate all of you. It's Buffy's premiere 25th anniversary today, and I'm so glad that show, inadvertently, brought me all of you.
Ugh, Kristin. He’s so lucky to have a daughter who can and will help him. And even non-dementia people should have someone go with them to doctors appointments if they can—moral support and a more objective listener? Good luck.
Matilda was so pumped up and excited after her game. I guess she missed it.
She's one of only three players on her team that's ever played before. So their pitchers walked SO many batters. But they showed poise and dealt with it.
Matilda had a fantastic game. Caught the whole thing (and we're talking innings where twenty batters were walked). She lined out to left field, walked and scored, hit a screaming liner over the centerfielder's head for an RBI double, hit-by-pitch and scored. Got trucked at the plate twice and held on for both outs (even when she got the wind knocked out of her).
We lost 30 - 16 (mostly because of all the rookie pitchers walks), but honestly our team played pretty well on defense, and hitting. A lot of the newbie softball players were athletic basketball players so they had levels of competence.
She was so happy afterwards. "I don't care if we lost! That was fun!"
Pix, I’m so sorry. That is so hard to manage on top of the general terribleness of the situation in the first place. I hope things go more smoothly than it seems at the outset.
Hooray for Matilda. That is so wonderful to hear about.

It'll suck in a totally new and unexpected way. I'm sorry. This is hard.
Cass is right.
I'm so sorry, though. Perhaps you can make the argument that you're there to take notes?
Oh Pix, my heart breaks for you. We never had any struggle or conflict going to doctor appointments with my parents, but my brother is a different story. His wife has to go with him because he will deny he even has a symptom or even the whole disease because he either has forgotten or is in denial. He will even fight about having ever been to a certain doctor before as he doesn't have that issue. Needless to say he isn't a reliable source for the results of a visit. Mom and Dad did both get testy about being treated as the child in the relationship when being to do or not do things. It is beyond difficult and heart wrenching. I send all the strength~ma I can muster.
It looks like we have secured marina space! Fort Lauderdale, has pool, gym, dog park, restaurant/bar, and all the good stuff. Even a 9' pool table in the rec area. I had written to all the other marinas but this one needed a phone call, and I don't do that. DH called and talked to the dock master and they have room for our size boat. Pix & ND, this is the marina that houses the mega yachts near the Ft. Lauderdale port and airport. You see it to the north when you fly in. At least a couple hundred times I have said aloud 'my future home' when driving past on the way to I-595 or the airport. The universe listened. I am beyond excited. Now just to figure out what to do with our stuff. eta: the other ports aren't deep enough for the huge yachts, and they even have to dock closer to the I-95 and airport corridor than further in where we would be. I do look forward to strolling the docks and checking them out though.
