Wash: Well, I wash my hands of it. It's a hopeless case. I'll read a nice poem at the funeral. Something with imagery. Zoe: You could lock the door and keep the power-hungry maniac at bay. Wash: Oh, no, I'm starting to like this poetry idea now. Here lies my beloved Zoe, my autumn flower, somewhat less attractive now she's all corpsified and gross...

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

My office neighbor (whom I sat next to last Wednesday) notified me on Monday that he tested positive for Covid-19 on a a rapid-response test this weekend and has flu-like symptoms. I was not able to find a rapid-response test (or appointment) reasonably nearby or reasonably soon, so I feel I was lucky to find an appointment for a PCR test mid-day Tuesday. The expected turnaround time is one to three days, so I didn't really expect to hear anything until Friday. I was surprised to wake up to a results notification this morning. Test result was negative. ::whew::

Aaaaand I now find out that I can expect delivery of some rapid-response at-home test kits this Friday. So I'll be a little better prepared for next time.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Woohoo negative tests.

Wishing that the dentist's office closes on account of bad weather so I don't have to go to my appointment is not very adult of me, right?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Here's hoping that the universe backs off and gives you some quiet to recover, Steph.

It's probably a good thing that I generally don't share my pizza with anyone and can get all the olives and mushrooms I like.

Ditto. Then again, there are few savory dishes in which I wouldn't happily include olives and mushrooms.

Last night I cooked salmon fillets and didn't have my usual sauce (honey) so I marinated in lime juice and then mixed soy sauce, spray margarine, salt, and pepper before grilling. They turned out way better than they had any right to given the lack of planning involved. And the sauce dribbled down and seasoned the skins, so bonus evening snack!

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I'm taking my family to the Grand Canyon over President's Day weekend. With the caveat that almost everything is closed (because winter and also Covid), anyone have recs for must-see things, easy hikes, good food?

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

That salmon sounds delicious, Matt.

Jealous, Jess. I love the Grand Canyon. Haven't been in ages, though, so no recs.

I've only been once, and it was 30 years ago and not during a pandemic. (And in the spring, so the mules and bike rentals etc were all open.)

Jessica - It's been years since I went to the Grand Canyon, but I really enjoyed the Lookout Studio. The rest of the canyon was spectacular, of course, but the Lookout Studio surprised me. In the area, we drove from the south rim to Monument Valley and that was a lovely drive in the winter. It's pretty desolate, but I loved it. Also, in Flagstaff, the Lowell Observatory with its historic telescopes was fascinating. Depending on where you're driving from and the weather, the drive from Flagstaff to Sedona via Oak Creek Canyon is also lovely. Both hilly and twisty, so I probably wouldn't do it in bad weather, but very scenic if it is dry out.
