"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

The Joss article has me depressed thinking about my own self-loathing, and the things I do to sabotage myself, and how implacable it seems.

First of all he's a narcissist, and you're not. Second, he hurts other people and you hurt yourself.

I wish there was an airflow button for you, Tom, like we have on a car. Instead of circulating your own self-loathing you could be flooded with the way everybody else feels about you.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

OK, it's not exactly an island, but how about this for the Buffistas? since most are working remotely, location shouldn't be an issue.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I'm sorry it hit you like that, Tom. That's not fair or right.

I keep deleting everything I want to say about the Joss thing. Just did it again. Cannot get the thoughts into words that seem right.

I do kind of love the commitment to really castling up that castle, Toddson

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

This is a really gorgeous simile, David. And also a wish that many of us share for you, Tom.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Spent most of the workday on a webinar.(Training class for shipping biological materials.) Luckily I had soda.(Vanilla Coke in the morning, Coke Zero Sugar in the afternoon)

I'm surprised I'm not more tired as Mr. S woke up in the middle of the night not feeling well.(Runny nose/congestion) He ended up going home early from school, and Gary is at the pediatrician's office right now with him. Hopefully it will turn out to be a cold.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Very weird dream last night wherein I was investigating insurance fraud at an airport terminal that was being rebuilt after some kind of disaster. It involved a sinister Bradley Cooper character, and me breaking the fourth wall by being aware that he was a character played by Bradley Cooper and making references to that.

What is even happening?

Teppy, I'm glad Tim's dad's TB test was negative. I'm sorry this is all so hard.

Juliana, I think you did the right thing keeping Peanut home.

I'm splitting this conversation between here and the Buffy thread, but I think Joss is a narcissist, and a sociopath.

He's Spike, he's Warren/Andrew/Jonathan, he's Topher, he's Mr. Universe in Serenity, he's Xander's resentment /entitlement.

I think Joss may have minimized Xander's involvement in latter seasons, as Joss's issues rose to the fore; he no longer related to the flawed, but basically decent guy who began as his avatar.

And it explains why Buffy was "wrong" (by the show's telling) to let go of the guy who got suck jobs from vampires, because she didn't pay enough attention to him, and instead concentrated on trivialities like her mother's brain cancer and saving the world.

BTW, today is Buffy Summers' 41st birthday.

Our wings are not tired.

Aww, I had somehow forgotten that Buffy shared her birthday with my son who turned 30 the same day. He is more fond of sharing the day with Poe, Parton, and Joplin.

Still in slow mode here, barely even on the internet except for minimal work duties. I did however walk the 1/4 mile loop in the park across the street yesterday for the first time in months so that was pretty delightful. By summer I should be back to several miles a day again. It was a good first step. I've been adding a whopping 100 steps a day per my tracker per instructions from the doc. Woot!

DH went through his closet and purged the 3x and 4x items to give to one of his huge coach friends. Even bigger than he was! Anyway, the coach has watched DH lose 80+ pounds already and is now going to join him walking the beach in the mornings. No doubt they will turn heads as they will easily clear a path when they walk side by side. Dude is 6'9" and probably 400 lbs. It is an issue when athletes stop playing and hit the middle years. They both plan to play men's league again. Their enthusiasm is cute.

That's pretty awesome, Laura. Way to be quietly inspirational, Brendon!

I'm glad you're recovering nicely, too.

Quiet, gray day here. My friend D and I co-worked via Zoom yesterday, and it was weirdly astounding. We put each other on mute, and did our work! I was far more productive yesterday just having him up in the corner, and so was he. We don't know why, but we don't care. We are co-Zooming again today. I mean, we literally said maybe a paragraph's worth of stuff to each other, and most of that was logistics. Both came and went as we pleased, but... it worked!
