Captain was looking for a pilot. I found a husband. Seemed to work out.

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

Ken's status as "magnet for all injured/lost animals" continues even at work: a dog ran into the lobby soaking wet, very confused, and with an injured foot. He has provided warm towels and a snack, and is loading her into Rupert the Mini for a trip to the vet. May the owners have chipped her and kept the address updated; she's wearing a Nightmare Before Christmas collar and is terribly sweet, so we're already inclined to like her a great deal.

Our wings are not tired.

Aww, thank you Ken.

Poor DH is suffering with worry over one of his players. (not unusual) He came to the house once with him and I was so impressed. Few teens can sit and have an extended conversation with adults with comfort and ease. Super brainiac taking high-level math and science classes in the magnet program. A kid who DH could get a scholarship for easily when the time comes; he is just a sophomore. Anyway, he hadn't heard from him for a couple of days so he drove past his house and found furniture at the curb and no cars. I hope he hears from him as it is very likely his family has been evicted. This world too often sucks for too many.

I'm trying not to lose my shit with mac, but he has just spent almost $300 in the last 3 days. that's his whole last paycheck and I paid $600 of Dec rent. Not to mention that he has paid exactly $0 back on the car I bought in July.

I mean, I am stupid bad with money also, like do not have a cushion because I impulse buy shit I do not need, but JFC. We are 1 month shy of two years into this BS of him not doing a GD thing that he is supposed to. not school, not figuring out a way to be self-sufficient, not communicating with me or others in the family.

Fandom means never having to say "But where would I wear that?"

Timelies all!

Mr. S woke up a bit before 8 this morning, which was fine, but has been a pain most of the day. I had to pull him out of the concert room where Gary was playing guitar because he was being disruptive. Luckily, the people in ops, which was nearby, had coloring books to keep him occupied.

I am sorry that parenting is so fraught for so many. Finally, as Brendon Jr turns 30 next month, for the first time in his life I feel like he will survive without me. That is a biggie. For too many years it didn't seem like it would ever happen.

Now tagless for your comfort.

Oh, mac.

I worry because Robin has the survival instincts of a cheeseburger, but she has shown remarkable progress recently (getting and keeping a pretty crappy job that pays okay, planning for some sort of school and coming out).

I don't worry about Oliver because I feel like he could survive the zombie apocalypse without us.

But still. Oy.

Came to Indiana to see my nephew in Elf: The Musical. It's delightful. He's adorable. But only about 10% of people in the audience were wearing masks. And Ft. Wayne's ICUs are running at 150% capacity. UGH.

DH has gone to the tailgating memorial without me and sending my regrets. Still up in the air about going to a Christmas evening food feast at a friend's house. Maybe a short visit to give a gift and check out if staying outdoors is an option? There will be a number of people I don't know. I have a bit of time to decide.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Dylan has a group of friends over watching a Matrix movie marathon in the basement. This is the first time he's had a group of friends over since March 2020 (all fully vaxxed, all regularly tested at school) and I am realizing a couple of things.

1 - I thought I made a MASSIVE amount of veggie chili for lunch. Five 14 year-old boys later, I have discovered I was mistaken.

2 - There is not enough Febreeze in the WORLD for the fumigation I'm going to need to do after these kids leave. I went down to tell them lunch was ready and dear lord, teenage boys do not smell good.

I know many people are zoomed out from work, but I miss people and would like to have you all over for a Holiday Tree Trimming party today at 4pm ET, so...

They're stank!

When Emmett was 14 the only way I could afford to keep him fed was to buy Trader Joe's bananas in bulk. A banana will stave off a proto-teen between Second Breakfast and Elevenses.
