We have/had various allergies/intolerances in my family. Mother was and sister is allergic to shrimp, so no shrimp in the family meals (although my mother would occasionally, when I was young, purchase some of the shrimp cocktail in a glass for me). I can eat anything except lobster - more for the rest of you! - and I've developed an aversion to meat (which is probably good for my food budget).
For those who can't eat nuts - I had a recipe for oatmeal cookies that contained pecans (also raisins for those who are averse, as my sister was) so I'd make the cookies and substitute butterscotch chips. That usually went over well, so try it if you want.
Shrimpsgiving is not the way of my people but I do like the sound of it
I tend to like nuts themselves, but I don't like them in anything. Unless peanut butter counts.
We're planning on doing a nuclear-family-only restaurant Thanksgiving tomorrow at Cracker Barrel. The larger family get-together is Friday in Memphis. For that I'm making a quinoa salad with chopped kale, avocado, tomato, and feta, and Mom's making an apricot bundt cake.
I thought about seeing whether my brother or my father and his wife (none of them big on doing holidays) wanted to go to lunch or dinner somewhere tomorrow, but my lingering symptom from being sick for so long is EXHAUSTION. So I'm actually just as glad not to have anywhere I need to be tomorrow. I'll stop at the store on my way home tonight (which will probably suck, I imagine) and pick up a rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, pie, rolls. I've got stuffing mix and frozen veggies at home already. I'll eat when I feel like eating, without having to worry about accommodating anyone else or cleaning my absolute PIT of a house. I feel like I'm supposed to feel bad for not having a Traditional Thanksgiving to attend, but honestly, this year it's kind of a relief not to have to mess with it.
That does sound nice.
I will be serving shrimp cocktail tomorrow! Come to my house.
Also coconut shrimp with Thai chili sauce for dipping.
Also grilled shrimp in the Mac & Cheese. Shrimpsgiving!
Whoa, that is Shrimpsgiving!
Whoa, that is Shrimpsgiving!
Pro-Tip: I go by my tacqueria and get the shrimp they cook on the plancha. It tastes better than any shrimp I can make, and it's just a tasty little add-on to the M&C.
I wouldn't add anything to m&c myself, but that is a hot tip!
Summary of Zoom call that just ended: everything is fucked and we need another meeting about it
So that's fun
Popeye's is luring me to their drive thru with their revamped mac & cheese. in fact, maybe I will go to lunch now...
I can't believe how long this has been going on, -t! Yiiiiiiiikes.
