Punishingly Intricate

We've been discussing this at work - only retail/corporate locations will be closed. Fulfillment centers for Target, WalMart, and Amazon are all remaining open and fully staffed. It's honestly a pretty shitty PR move by all the companies involved

Shocking. Sigh

Really? Target is systemically not allowing us to schedule pickups at our DC on Thanksgiving (our DC is closed on Thursday but open on Friday so we wouldn't anyway but we got a notice about it) so I thought they were entirely closed. Bah.

Why isn't everyone pelting me with JOY, dammit? - Zenkitty

So, a month or so ago, HR called me into their office because they got paperwork for an unemployment claim - for me. I let her know I hadn't submitted it, so she marked it fraudulent and sent it back, and other than checking my credit report a couple times, I didn't think any more of it. Then a couple weeks after that, I get a message on my landline from the unemployment office, but she just left their 800 number, no name or extension, so I've never been able to get past the recordings to talk to someone. So I just let it go since my HR reported the fraud. But then I get a call yesterday from Bank of America that they've issued a debit card for my claim. Thankfully, I picked up that call & said, "no, no, wrong, no," so they have now also recorded it as fraud. BofA gave me a couple of phone numbers - one of which was the 800 number I already had, the other was the fraud line, but mostly leads to a busy signal. So I spoke to HR again this morning and with her help I got my # in a queue for a call back at least. I wasn't super-concerned - I assume I won't need Unemployment payments anytime soon (touch wood), but I still want to make sure it's straightened out in case I do need it. Then HR rep mentioned that they might send out tax forms for any payments that were made so now I'm having a mild freak out about trying to get this dealt with. So that's my entertaining morning.

FYI, David, my friend was So Excited about the copy of Swordfishtrombones I gave him for his birthday. Next time you do your tour, I think I can just about guarantee you a couple of ticket sales!

Yeah, I wish I were surprised to hear this.

Our wings are not tired.

That's nuts, Epic. Sometimes I wonder what legitimate things the people who develop these fraud schemes could have accomplished, but that is balanced by my speculating what massive fraud I could have accomplished if I had chosen that path. Ah, the path not taken.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

I can get an authentication code as a text message

Up until this summer, I was on a legacy data plan that charged me 20ยข per text message (incoming or outgoing), so I was very resentful when some systems at work implemented security codes by SMS (no email option). It wasn't required often enough that it would have been cost-effective to change my plan, but it irked.

Oh, I would be mad about that, dcp! I'm irritated that I have to give out my cell # for these confirmation thingies when it's my private number, I'd be super pissed if I had to pay for the texts!

Uuuuuggggh, Epic. I feel like I've heard of that being an identity theft thing, I hope it isn't too messy for you.

Thrive to spite them

A lot od stores are going to be closed to customers on Thanksgiving but not totally closed.

Any stores that sat they are closed but still have pick up available aren't closed to all their staff.

I will be working Thanksgiving and its required for all fulfillment employees and managers to work Thanksgiving. Sales floor and other employees could volunteer but I think they get Christmas Eve off or they did last year.

Fulfillment employees don't.

We do get our regular pay, holiday pay and extra pay for working Thanksgiving.

Honestly I would rather work on Thanksgiving when the store is closed than work Black Friday but I have to do both.

Although our Black Friday sales have been up since last Friday except for a few items that will go out on Black Friday.

What -t said! I was pissed I had to make space on my phone for an app for concert tickets and that didn't cost me anything but space. I'd be soo pissed if it cost me money!

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on my equifax just in case (though I'm probably due to check back in again). The call back I got confirmed that there is presently no claim against my SSN and sent me to their website to report the fraud. Of course, they don't call back or anything unless they need more info, so I won't know for sure that it's taken care of until I *don't* get any more calls or receive tax documents in January. No wonder people were so frustrated trying to make claims during the pandemic - if this is them at non-slammed levels...I shudder to think.

Thrive to spite them

I never got my full unemployment money from the state. I got $100 less a week of what I was supposed to but I couldn't ever get through to anyone so I let it go.

Someone I worked with finally got their unemployment money in Feb.

I've been better at not looking at screens today. I don't like podcasts and I can't really listen to audiobooks unless I've read it before so I gave up trying that and spent the day dozing and just letting my mind wander aimlessly.

Once again, a Thanksgiving classic.
