Goodbye and Good Riddance 2018: The Real Bad Place Was The Friends We Made Along The Way
Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Thanksgivukkahmas, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering.
Go away, 2018. You have a lot to turn around, 2019. Be a Good Place.
Congrats, Debet!
And meara, your 2018 doesn't have to follow the calendar, either.
I'm starting to see ads for how to celebrate the New Year 2019. It feels freaky. Personally, I think I'll do what I did last year -- get on the Net, tune to a radio station in London, and celebrate with the British at 7:00 Eastern time. Go out for a quiet dinner (there's an Irish pub near the apartment), and spend a quiet evening at home until going to bed at a reasonable hour. Yes, I'm 56 years old. Partying until dawn never was my thing, and it's even less so now.
Thanks, everyone! We're pretty excited. You know, when not puking.
We'll likely be playing board games to ring in the new year. A neighbor does fireworks, so we'll get that display by proxy.
Meara, seems legit.
Congratulations, Debet!
I'm thinking board games would be a good NYE activity. Board games and bubbly!

We've played Pandemic Legacy (both seasons) for the past two NYEs and I highly recommend this approach!
...bubbly...sigh...
I got a box! Fortunately, the contents were not damaged by the brief torrential rain we had this afternoon, which I guess managed to blow rain under the entryway right up to our door.
In order of opening, there was a cute little book, "The Twelve Terrors of Christmas" by John Updike, illustrated by Edward Gorey, some intriguing and useful-looking food wraps from Trader Joe', that take the place of plastic wrap, and a Chocolate Passport with 7 chocolate bars of different origin. And then I found the adorable Christmas sock card, which promises ANOTHER box to come.
My husband picked up the package and said "It's from Becky someone in Sunnyvale, California? Oh, right, BUFFY SUMMERS."
And! I forgot to mention the wrapping paper on the chocolate, which was Playbill wrapping paper! I don't even know where one gets such a thing! I should put a picture up on FB.
thanks to those Buffistas who actually sent cards this year...Heather, I forgot to say that was a beautiful pic of you and India. Tep, yeah this is the weather that ALMOST makes living here sort of worth it, but we do think it is cold at night.(Not to you, probably.) I keep thinking I'll send cards again, but I forgot to buy any and I get lots from non-profits that say things like "Happy birthday!" and, thanks to some donations to HIAS, "Mazel Tov." so, look out for those over 2019. congratulations to debet and fam.
My Buffista Secret Santa gift arrived, and it is AWESOME! I got it on Monday, and I had had a terrible, very Monday-ish Monday, so it was wonderful to come home to my present--from Jesse!
It included so many things that are basically perfect: a reusable lunch bag that says, "Smash the garlic AND THE PATRIARCHY!", a cool pair of socks that say "Making a fucking difference" on them, a magnet with a vintage picture of a group of people posing after going sledding that says "You have friends and you know it." (Which I have hanging up over my desk at work right now), a ceramic shot glass that says, "My Body, My Choice" on it, a tiny bottle of maple syrup, a ginger-flavored dark chocolate bar ("Wicked Dark"), and some chocolate covered blueberries.
Thank you!!
