I have been procrastinating some stuff all week and need to get it done today, so I am jealous Jesse. Especially because I slept like crap last night and feel gross.

Our wings are not tired.

I worked hard all week so today I am working on my next month's worth of menu planning. Looking at recipes is fun for me. Having it layed out in a calendar with the recipes and shopping lists ready to go makes it so easy. It will take me all day today to plan, but then the next 4 weeks I won't have to do any planning. Just see what is on the menu that day. And it keeps us on our diet!

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

That is way too organized for me, but then I eat about 5 or 6 different meals in all, leavened by the occasional takeout (which is mostly from the same 5 or 6 restaurants). But then you're cooking for several people and I just have to please myself.

There was just an article about people who eat the same thing for lunch every day -- for years on end, sometimes. I kind of identified with it.

Theo, were you hanging with Oracne? Did she tell you she texted me on Sunday, thinking I was you?

Yes, it was Victoria, though she didn't mention texting you. :-) She is an excellent person to go tramping through OSV with, and the grounds were largely deserted, so the interpreters were unusually chatty and unrushed. (If any Buffista visiting wants to go with me, let me know -- it is my Happy Place.)

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I try to make a meal plan at the beginning of the week, but, inevitably, life takes over on at least one of the days and I don't feel up to making what I planned.

Also me. Which is why I try to keep a bag of frozen tortellini and frozen broccoli in the freezer because I can make it quick, toss it with olive oil and parm, and voila. Dinner.

Yeah, I can make any of a number of pasta dishes in the time it takes the water to boil, and ltc will actually eat them without telling me they're "icky". Scrambled eggs with a veg on the side is also something she'll eat. So, we fall back on that a lot too. I would prefer a fritatta, but she won't actually eat the eggs if there is anything in them.

Our wings are not tired.

I often switch around days, but at least the recipes and shopping lists are ready to go. It is only DH and me, and he loves to try new things and I love to cook. It is the deciding what to eat at the end of a long day of work that gets me every time, because take out will win. I look in the morning or the night before to see what is scheduled and send him the list of shopping items and which store if needed. I don't shop! Planning and cooking is enough. He does most of the shopping and cleaning up.

edit because planing is not planning.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I'm enjoying the meal kit thing because they handle planning AND shopping, and each "serves 2" dish is generally three meals for me, so it really stretches out.

I remember the crazy days. 500 posts an hour. Nubmer! Natgbsb

I am working from home today which is resulting in barely working. The weather is GORGEOUS kid 60s and no windy partly cloudy. I have the back door open and the dogs are enjoying unlimited outside time for the first time in a long time. I hope it wears them out - when they are inside all day they just sleep, but outside there are sounds and squirrels and SO MANY SMELLS!! It is laps around the backyard and then coming in to check on me every few minutes.

I am also about to start in on watching a movie. I will attempt to pay invoices from work while watching said film, but I cannot guarantee anything.

Herding cats for fun

My yard has a lot of lava rocks. They make such terrible footing even the cats avoid walking on them. One patch has been covered up with rubber backed carpet samples from Habitat for Humanity. I keep finding lava rocks scattered about.

Today I found out how that happens. I looked out the window and spotted a little bird with a striped head, vigorously kicking rocks with both feet at once so it could peck up whatever tasty morsels were hidden there. It moved enough rocks to make a hollow that it's little body fit into. Then it flew off leaving me with the knowledge I will have to sweep my walkway once more. The mysteries of my local nature have been revealed to me!

I think I will name it Bulldozer.
