When I was over visiting the sibs my ex-SIL gave me a wooden box, which was my mother's. It didn't weigh anything and I thought it was empty and didn't open it until today. Inside rolled up were all of their school diplomas, many receipts for tiny payments to a furniture company, military papers from my dad's WW2 service, AND wedding memorabilia. The topper from the cake wrapped in a military napkin, hotel bill, flower bill, license announcement, and more. They were married June 10, 1944, 4 days after D-Day. I got all the feels here today.
There was also a long lock of hair tied in a ribbon that I have no clue who it might be. It would be her hair color, but likely others in the family too.
That's amazing, Laura. So many treasures.
I've got my electronic boarding pass, confirmation of the shuttle, and confirmation of hotel and tour of Hoover Dam. I'm going to Las Vegas tomorrow!
I'm going to Las Vegas tomorrow!
Woo hoo! Treat yo self!
F riding on her pretend car talking on her pretend cellphone: "Yeah, my Mom is (real name), but she kind of doesn't want me to do bad things so I try to do good things."
Oooh, Vegas! I wanna go. I've never been.
I'm more excited about Hoover Dam, frankly. But then I've never been in Vegas except for a short layover in the airport, which has its own gambling area full of slot machines AND you can see the Strip from the windows.
Seriously, slots in the airport?
Ha, there are slots everywhere. Enjoy, Connie! I loved going to Hoover Dam. I went before the big new bridge, which looks horrifying to height phobic me.
I am going to Vegas some time next month. Not sure what side trips yet.
I went over the big new bridge when I did my Grand Canyon tour last year. We went over the dam at night on the way back. Gorgeous. But many years ago, when we went to Arizona every winter, we'd go over the dam. One year they closed the dam, and we had to take a four-hour detour through badlands.
