Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Lentils, rice, and kale are a good combo, right? The kale is frozen, I have no fresh veggies to add, and any garlic or onion would have to be in powder form. What would you do with this and a slightly-above-basic selection of spices?

That sounds like a perfect combination! I'd add something spicy and vinegar, unless you have a lemon. Or canned tomato?

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I'm allergic to tomato. I do have vinegar, olive oil, and coconut oil options.

Sounds a good combo of food to me!

Atropa I already shared my topamax story on dw but I did find the word thing sneaky and frustrating.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Do you have broth? I would make a soup: saute the kale until defrosted, add whatever spices sound good to you (cumin or paprika would be good if you have them and onion and/or garlic powder), let them cook in the kale for a minute, deglaze with a TBS or so of vinegar, add broth or water and then add your rice and lentils and cook until tender adding more water/broth as necessary about 20 minutes.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Aurelia, do you have hot sauce and eggs? I'd do a rice and lentil bowl with kale (you can cook everything in one pot!) with hot sauce and a fried egg on top.

We're supposed to get single digit temps over the next two days, but since they're all at least positive numbers I don't feel I have a right to complain!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Lentils, rice, and kale are a good combo, right?

Yes! Spice it up any way you like, maybe add some sort of acid and fat, yum!

Do you have broth?

I have some soup base that you dissolve in water. I should check the expiration date though.

Aurelia, do you have hot sauce and eggs?

I do! These are excellent ideas.

That's the pain / That cuts a straight line down through the heart / We call it love

Now I want rice with lentils and kale and an egg on top.

Just read a NYT article about the weather in the Midwest, and, wow, I 100% assumed that the remark about it getting down to -60 degrees was an exaggeration. Yikes.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I cannot express how glad I am to be far away from those temperatures.
