I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I cannot express how glad I am to be far away from those temperatures.

The status is NOT quo.

Very sorry for your loss, JZ. Thinking about you.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

I'm so sorry, JZ.

See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Thank you. I managed to make it through today with only one outburst of tears (at the continental breakfast table at case conference this morning, and one of the Kaiser doctors came and asked my permission to hug me and wish me peace, because, bless this state, obtaining clear verbal consent is second nature even in the face of a blubbing administrator) and now I'm home and waiting to hear from her sister, who flew in from Rochester today. I'll be checking in with her mom.

FB is filling up with tributes to her: one person after another saying, "She was fearless, she had no limits, she was a force of nature, she was the greatest teacher I've ever had, I wouldn't be acting/singing/writing/doing XYZ if she hadn't believed in me so fiercely." But, of course, like all such people, she was also exhausting and frustrating and like a lot of her friends I had taken a decade-long time-out from connecting with her for my own sanity.

But then we fell back in a year and change ago, and she was sober but still wildly weirdly herself and it felt easy and like flying and she was brimming with plans for taping mock NPR shows and writing a play together and directing me in an Albee show and a billion other projects.

Fuck this mortality thing. It's mortal and stupid.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Oh, JZ, I'm so sorry, honey.

Ann, that's a ferret.

Just read a NYT article about the weather in the Midwest, and, wow, I 100% assumed that the remark about it getting down to -60 degrees was an exaggeration. Yikes.

It's currently -25F in my hometown, which is just about as far south as you can go in Wisconsin and not be in Illinois. Wind chill -48F.

Meanwhile, 1.5 inches of slushy snow plus +14F equals a three-hour delay for the government in DC today. On the other hand, a lot of local school districts are closed.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

We went from a 2-hour delay at 5am to school closed by 8am. There's no snow right now but it's supposed to start coming down by 1pm. I *hate* non-snow snow days!

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

I'm so very sorry, jz. I'm glad you were able to reconnect.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Men! And their Sales.

There is a particular salesperson who happens to be male who is irritating me with his apparent inability to read emails but I tarring the whole mess of them with the same brush in my mind. For the moment. Sorry any Bufista salesmen if there are any.
