Also, you can tell it's not gonna have a happy ending when the main guy's all bumpy.

What is even happening?

Remember the girl in Cornwall who pulled a sword out of a lake and is now the sovereign monarch of Great Britain?

It happened again, this time in Sweden.

Would a river count, because I'm thinking we need one of those events involving the Potomac.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Strange women in ponds distributing swords is sounding better and better, I have to say.

I love that the new queen of Sweden is named Saga.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

"Watery tarts lying about in ponds, distributing swords."

Oh, -t got it right, the watery tarts was this line:'

"You can't expect to wield supreme executive power just 'cause some watery tart threw a sword at you!"

Conflation is the enemy.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

That's starting to sound a LOT more reasonable than our current system.

Thrive to spite them

I had a racist customer. She was also rude to the man I assume was her husband and rolling her eyes at him and wanting me to agree.

He likes Nike shoes. She doesn't want to give them money. I mostly kept quiet and then she said (about the others we had and Nike) "this is going to sound rude but there is no other way to say it , they are all made by the same little chinks".

I wanted to say something forceful but instead I just said "you could have said they are all made over seas" and she interrupted to say "with slave labor".

I was polite and smiling because she is a regular and I can't piss off customers but I wanted to say more

information libertarian

The down side of customer service.

Today is the MacArthur Award announcements and someone whose 8th birthday party I remember attending won this year! I don't really know her now but I see her on the beach in Cape Cod every summer. (She's an MIT Health Economist.)

Our wings are not tired.

Finally: Sen. Heidi Heitkamp says that she will vote against confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.

One down.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

Oh yay!

Askye, I would not have been able to stop myself from saying (ETA: brightly, politely, and with a smile), "Well, to tell the truth, ma'am, I don't see you or your kids sitting down at an industrial sewing machine. And I don't think you or any of our customers would be willing to pay the prices we'd have to charge to fund the salaries, insurance, and paid vacation for the local, domestic, US citizen employees to make these shoes right here in the US. So it's a real quandary, isn't it?"

This is why I don't work retail anymore. I have no brain to mouth filter left.

Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

I find as I get older, I get closer and closer to this.

The artist formerly associated with cupcakes.

Do I call Disney again and let them know it wasn't stolen after all, or do I just pick up the replacement MagicBand when I get to Florida?

I say just pick up the replacement MagicBand, but I haven't been to Disneyworld since they started using them.

(Please visit my spiritual home a few times for me.)

Did I mention here that Aldi is going to have a cheese Advent calendar this year?

There's an absinthe Advent calendar that I desperately want to try, but it's from the UK, and shipping is more than the absinthe itself.
