I'm eating ice cream. Fuck this day.

JenP, my parents have been getting rid of their excess shopping bags by filling them with non-perishable goods and donating the whole thing to food pantries. Seems to work out!
I think that's what I'm going to do. Certainly I don't have enough bags to fill to solve the problem that food pantries address, but I have a LOT of them and that would be a freaking awesome way to give them away and help. Thanks, Hivemind.
I actually have OnStar, who scrambled up a helper within the hour they said they would. And I WAS out of gas. I put the hood up anyway, because at least it looked like I was visibly broken down rather than merely blithely parking in the bike lane to obstruct traffic.
Needless to say, I Have Learned A Lesson.
Timelies all!
Am avoiding the news as much as possible.
I learned that lesson once, too, Theo. Fortunately, it is one that one usually only needs to learn once.
Wasn't the last font Verdana?
It was. At the time it was judged the most readable font. I am not sure if that has changed, but I have to say that the way it looks on my phone now is SO GOOD that I hardly care about the computer version looking a little wonky (which I can't pinpoint the reason. It is just very white)
This is so awesome, and since the experience is so good on my phone I can see myself commenting more! I remember the days when I was a top commenter back on World Crossing.
I am really glad I re-checked my polling site, because IT TOTALLY CHANGED FROM WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL.
The mail changed my site from my normal senior apartments to a "Social Club" which was a longer walk. I thought it was weird to vote in a "Social Club" (which I process as members only bar and or shooting range), but I can see not wanting to vote in the senior apartment building. But it was in the senior apartment building! They were really not into a) signage that gave you directions/flow or wearing masks over their noses. But I voted and there were really only a few people there (mostly seniors)
Re: masks not covering one's nose: I have at least one mask that does not want to stay on my face if I am talking. Most of the time I am not talking (grocery shopping, etc., I'm just walking around, not chatting) so when I *am* and my mask starts slipping it's not immediately apparent that it's not on me right (I am also bad at knowing whether my glasses are on my face without touching them with my hands. I may have issues), so since I have noticed that I am less judgey about other people's masks not covering their noses although of course they REALLY SHOULD.
Why this is true of (so far as I have noticed) one of my homemade masks and not all of them, I have no idea. They seem like pretty much the same design? IDK
I have more of a problem of the edges of masks getting in my eyes, because my face is super small! The only ones that are comfortable are the ones that are made like a bra cup, not with three pleats.
I have a little trouble with that, I have been folding down the top edge when it's an issue. It doesn't seem to always be an issue even with the same mask, so I don't even know what that's about.
BTW I splurged on some eShakti masks to match the work clothes that I bought a while back (but haven't been wearing because I never go into the office but I might as well be ready for when I will and who knows maybe I will dress professionally to wfh one of these days?) and they are SUPER COMFORTABLE with adjustable ear loops and a neck band so they dangle on your chest when you aren't wearing them on your face. Several different styles - pleated, fitted, scarf, tubular. And pretty.
I was so distracted that I walked through the supermarket yesterday with the mask around my chin. It's been cold enough that I'm wearing a scarf, so maybe I was just not reminded that something was there that shouldn't have been -- I'm super-good about wearing my mask in public, really.
Perhaps it's the election that is distracting me, though, so I can legit blame it on Trump.
