Riley: Oh, yeah. Sorry 'bout last time. Heard I missed out on some fun. Xander: Oh yeah, fun was had. Also frolic, merriment and near-death hijinks.

JenP, why would they not accept iolite? My engagement necklace has that!

Right? I sent a note to the "why isn't this on the list?" email address. And now I want to see your necklace.

Yay for nachos and for voting. Boo for work troubles all around.

ETA: That's a long and awesome day, Laura.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh wow, Laura, good luck!

Someone was offering sourdough starter on my local FB, so I'm going to get some, but first I'm going to buy a scale? I don't understand how humanity has been making bread for generations with no scales, but now they are super critical? But OK.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Well, one of our students tested positive for COVID. We're quarantined until November 9th. He stayed home all this week as he had a fever, so I am not overly worried, but am going to go get tested anyway.

Punishingly Intricate

We're going to be poll observers in PA on Tuesday and, since we're not PA residents, have to be outside observers. PA allows campaigning up to 10' of a polling place entrance which is crazy. That's no space at all! One of our jobs is also to stand at the back of the line at 8pm, when polls close, to ensure everyone in line by then gets to vote.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Covid~ma, Scrappy!

I find baking bread way easier with a scale, but just adding stuff by eye and guesstimating also works pretty well, honestly.

That sounds like a long day, Laura, but working with veterans of the process should probably help it go smoothly.

We have GoogleChat/Hangouts but not everyone uses it. And I wouldn't be comfortable using any of the company provided tools for backchannel discussion, I don't think.

10 ft! That's so close!

Our wings are not tired.

I know there will be observers there too, from both parties, but I don't know if they arrive before dawn like we do. 150' is quite reasonable. 10' is absurd! Yikes.

I did send out an email to my team bemoaning that we couldn't all get together for Happy Hour, which makes me feel slightly better? Very slightly.

You've got friends to have good times with. When you need to share the trauma of a badly-written book with someone, that's when you go to family.

Toddson, as some of the cars have been in those spots for days, in the Before Times I would have been "It's only four-hour parking out there, you get what you get". Part of the neighborhood's striving for net-zero carbon includes only one parking spot per household; multicar families regularly scramble to find a secure place to keep their vehicles that's fairly close. And now, of course, a lot of folks have had people move in with them for the duration and parking enforcement is not a priority. But the city should have talked to the HOA, put flyers under the windshield wipers, SOMETHING.

askye, four hours?!? I salute your dedication.

Aw, -t, I'm sorry. Backchannel Hangouts?

Laura, let us hope all employers are awesome and give people time earlier in the day to vote, if not the day off - I don't want you to have to tell anyone "No, I'm sorry, you're too late".

JenP, I was trying to be classy and picked something too delicate for daily wear. *g*

Jesse, I only have scales because of UK cookbooks; I've never managed a successful starter - may your luck be better!
