Thrive to spite them

Four hours to vote. Part of the wait was the process0 you go in and there are 3 peopel to help- you have to fill out out the absentee ballot application, which they do on the computer (with hunt and peck slow typing),a nd then it's printed out and you sign, then they have to print out the piece of paper for voting. Then you go to 1 of the 4 voting machines, stick the paper in, and then vote, and then take the paper out and take it to the ballot box thing and insert it face down to be read and counted.

Which honestly that process doesn't take too long, but only 3 people can really vote at a time so it slows everything down.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

which is making me think the "This is fine" dog is actually the author of this article

You work with such famous authors!

More reorg meetings for me to cry through while on mute with the camera off, yay. I am getting the feeling that the rest of my team is feeling as blindsided and betrayed as I am, which is kind of comforting, but since all the meetings are with management we are not actually getting together and bitching about it...strange to miss casually complaining in someone's cubicle

Wow, askye, that does not sound like the best possible system. But yay you for getting through it!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Fingers crossed for LTC's test results!

I'm sorry, -t. Can you set up a casual chat with the coworkers you'd be talking to in cubes? That shit is crucial.

Thanks for voting, askye!

I would like nachos. Alas I have too much other food in the house.

Our wings are not tired.

Got my organizational email this morning from my precinct Clerk. It looks like there are 8 of us working my precinct election day, which seems in line from what I have seen in the past. 3 of them are from one family that I see every election, my neighbors, and DH is working there along with me. I'll likely recognize the other workers too since it seems to be the same people each election. We have to arrive at 5:30 AM and expect to be there without leaving for 15 hours (or more). No ordering out for food so we need to pack lunches and dinners and snacks. DH is working inside watching all the equipment and fixing if needed. I am going to be outside as a 'Deputy' for the most part. I'll have breaks and a seat, but mostly I'll be working the line. It is supposed to be only a high of 76 that day, which is awesome. Obviously I will dress appropriately, but I am pretty happy with being outside instead of sitting and checking in voters for hour after hour. Also have to keep campaign reps outside the 150' barrier. It is such a blue district that I don't expect much in the way of competing candidates, but the state rep race is pretty tight. The only hitch is at 7PM I have to plant myself at the end of the line and not let anyone else vote. That is going to be really hard. I really hope people get there early! It is going to be brutal to tell any of my neighbors that they can't vote. Please please please let people get there in time!

eta: big upside is by the time I get home there should be real results on my television, including my own state

JenP, why would they not accept iolite? My engagement necklace has that!

Right? I sent a note to the "why isn't this on the list?" email address. And now I want to see your necklace.

Yay for nachos and for voting. Boo for work troubles all around.

ETA: That's a long and awesome day, Laura.

Oh wow, Laura, good luck!

Someone was offering sourdough starter on my local FB, so I'm going to get some, but first I'm going to buy a scale? I don't understand how humanity has been making bread for generations with no scales, but now they are super critical? But OK.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Well, one of our students tested positive for COVID. We're quarantined until November 9th. He stayed home all this week as he had a fever, so I am not overly worried, but am going to go get tested anyway.

We're going to be poll observers in PA on Tuesday and, since we're not PA residents, have to be outside observers. PA allows campaigning up to 10' of a polling place entrance which is crazy. That's no space at all! One of our jobs is also to stand at the back of the line at 8pm, when polls close, to ensure everyone in line by then gets to vote.

Covid~ma, Scrappy!

I find baking bread way easier with a scale, but just adding stuff by eye and guesstimating also works pretty well, honestly.

That sounds like a long day, Laura, but working with veterans of the process should probably help it go smoothly.

We have GoogleChat/Hangouts but not everyone uses it. And I wouldn't be comfortable using any of the company provided tools for backchannel discussion, I don't think.
