I need some talking down from the ledge. I cannot find the key to my safe which means I cannot get more checks which means I cannot go pay my property taxes today - This has resulted in me having a complete crying breakdown for the last 30 minutes.

I cannot call my parents because they would freak the fuck out about me being a disaster and would worry for weeks.

I cannot call the brother because he is thousands of miles away and will just feel helpless, but also want to fix things and there is no fix, none immediate anyway.

And I do not know why I cannot just keep track of things and not have so much crap that there are bagillions of stupid little boxes and baskets and junk drawers and crap-filled things that I could look from now until dawn and still have more places to look. why can;t I just fucking manage my fairly simple life and not be a disasterous mess.

Whether that is possible or not, you will be okay. You will get the taxes paid eventually, you will find the keys or apply some leverage to the safe or something. It's not the best this could go but it's truly not a disaster.

Also, I don't know where the keys to my fire-proof safe are either. So there's some important stuff in there like my passport that I can't really get to.

What -t said. If you can, get yourself to stop with the "everything is a disaster" part. This might be a problem, but you can fix it, and not everything is a disaster, I promise.

On the other hand, sometimes you just need to freak out for a while and that helps.
