The food section of the paper had information on making latkes from packaged hash browns (frozen? dried? I'm not sure).
That's how I made mine and they came out perfectly.
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.

Do you think I can make cauliflower latkes?
I don't see why you couldn't?
Latkes sound like a good idea, but unless someone wants to make them for me it isn't going to happen.
Went to Costco to pick up Zoe's drugs, and they had to ask my address because they had 2 Zoe Holts in their system. Huh.

If you fry them in oil they should taste pretty good! I mixed my pre-shredded potatoes with a mix of onions and leeks, one beaten egg and lots of seasoning.
I don't see why that wouldn't work with cauliflower. I've made hash out of leftover roasted cauliflower and it tastes pretty great.
With the frozen hasbrowns, you wouldn';t be able to do that magic drain the shredded potatoes and re cover the starch from the water thing. I don't know how much difference it would actually make to the final product, but some, surely
It makes a HUGE difference. Sooooo much crispier.
Y. Cauliflower latkes'
So we're buying Dominic a car for bday/Xmas. How.is.he.turning.16.
(Really, it's just so mom & dad can get out of the schlepping & Josh's cars are..special. So just getting a reliable boring beater for the fam so dad can try to coax nongearhead son into maintenance & repair since it's 'his' car & son will probably get gearhead younger brother to do the work, for a fee.)
Go for it, Sophia. If Trader Joe's can do it, so can you.
Seriously, there were no potatoes in Eastern Europe until the 16th century, they were frying anything and everything before then I have no doubt.
I have very little sense of who is who in your family, sarameg, but that's shocking. The passage of time, I will never get used to it.
I used to order sweet potato pancakes at Slim Goodie's thinking they would be like larked but with sweet potatoes (they had regular latkes on the menu, so not an unreasonable assumption) but they were more like pumpkin pancakes but with sweet potatoes. Not bad, by any means, but not what I was hoping for.
