-t and Katerina Bee, I hope you stay safe and breathe easy (ditto all the other nearby Cal-istas).
juliana, are you in California now, too?
Teppy, I like both skirts. They're really cute.
Elsewehere in Greater Camberville, somebody had the Madonna stolen out of their front yard.
I'm not Catholic, but that seems like a good way to get yourself cursed.
This is what always gets me about the theft of religious objects, particularly something like an outdoor yard statue, that is unlikely to have any monetary value.
If you believe it, you (should) be of the opinion that having a stolen statue isn't likely to bestow any divine favor.
If you don't believe it, and didn't steal it for its value, why do you want it; aren't you just the eensiest bit suspicious, just in a popular conception of karma way?
Came home yesterday to find a sign in the grass in front of my parking spot that said repair work was happening from 8/19-8/21 6:30 am to 6:30 pm, so no parking. Parked in a guest spot. Came home from work today to see no indication that any work had been done, but the sign was still there.
They must have had to rest from putting up that sign.
Evacuation zone has spread to this side of the interstate but still pretty much a whole (small but bigger than my city) city away.
It would be really nice to have some rain about now. Or less wind, at least.
Very scary. I wish I could divert rain your way.
We'd sure appreciate it! It is supposed to be less hot tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers that that means conditions improve for containment and whatnot
Perhaps reading a murder mystery set during Katrina while keep half an eye on the evacuation orders is not that smart of a choice. Surely there's something else I can read...
starts to Google remote rain dancing
I fear if I do the rain dance here we'll get it instead.

I'm just watching an episode of QI, where the story was told of this priest from England who visited brethren in France, at a location where they had the arm of (allegedly) Mary Magdalene. And this priest went in to venerate said relic, and surreptitiously bit one of the fingers off and took it back to England with him.
So if ever you visit a Catholic shrine or abbey or whatnot in possession of a saint's relic, and there's a sign up saying:
KEEP BEHIND THE BARRIER
NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
NO BITING
You'll know why.
That's too funny, billytea.
I wasn't even thinking about relics (although you think people who believe them authentic would be really afraid to bite off a finger).
Huh. Got an alert that my company is closing the Vallejo office tomorrow, I assume because of the fire, but nothing about Fairfield which is a lot closer to the fire and seems more in danger to me. I wonder what the reasoning is there. Maybe it's some other reason, the alert did not actually say.
