I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

Huh. Got an alert that my company is closing the Vallejo office tomorrow, I assume because of the fire, but nothing about Fairfield which is a lot closer to the fire and seems more in danger to me. I wonder what the reasoning is there. Maybe it's some other reason, the alert did not actually say.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

It would be really nice to have some rain about now.

So greedy! We just had a rare summer thunderstorm last weekend.

Which....started all the wildfires.

You were a wrong baby who grew up wrong. The wrong kind of wrong. It's better you hear it from a friend.

I wasn't even thinking about relics (although you think people who believe them authentic would be really afraid to bite off a finger).

Apparently that's only people who believe in germ theory.

Herding cats for fun

Ohmigawd, today was much worse than yesterday. So hot and the air smelled like old ashtrays so we closed the windows and huddled in front of the fan. Power went out about 6:30. Scrambled around getting flashlights and candles before dark. Discovered horrible leak under kitchen sink with moldy slime everywhere. Bottom of candle box collapsed and a couple of the jar candles broke and I had to deal with broken glass while DH grabbed a wrench to put the drain pipe back together in the dimness of the kitchen.

Couldn't stand the stuffy air indoors without the fan so sat in garden enjoying the fresh oxygen in the stinky air. I think closing up the house was not the best option when it's 86 degrees.

Then the power came back and we gratefully sat down for dinner, TV and fans on high. It's the little things that are best.

Doubt the people living down here in the flatlands close to the Bay need to worry about fire evacuation, so everyone breathe easy, okay?

"And that's why God Almighty gave us fire insurance and the public defender".

Oh no, people in the fire zone. All safety and rain~ma.

In (slight) meara'ing:

Dana, congrats!

Congratulations, Gud's youngest daughter! It is encouraging that she could tell you that.

Wonderful school news about Matilda!

As for me, after being on stressy test season since late June, I finally finished all tests and papers and a research proposal (that I had to conjure up in about two weeks) five days ago and get the grades needed (I think - I currently have the grades I need, but I'm waiting to hear about the grades in two other classes. As long as I have at least 84% in both of them, I'm OK, so I'm not very much worried). At work we started unpaid leave four days ago and I've been resting since then, but it is starting to be a bit boring. Planning to go to the museum today and do some cooking.

I'm not seeing any news about containment, but a couple of areas that had been evacuated are allowing residents to return, so that's probably a good sign, right?

Coding and Sleeping

Ugh. I managed to fuck things up today before even waking up. I guess I've been doing that a lot lately and I don't even remember doing it. I figure I have so little empathy I can't even be bothered to remember doing bad things. Sometimes I fear that I may be a psychopath.

Fred Pete - Aug 20, 2020 3:25:49 am PDT #25066 of 30019
Ann, that's a ferret.

Gud, if you were a psychopath, you wouldn't worry about being a psychopath -- you'd either invent a justification for the bad things or simply not care.

Please talk to a professional, or at least call a hot line. If nothing else, talk to your GP -- you may need medication.

Our wings are not tired.

What Fred said, Gud. Your self view is flawed. Don't listen to anyone, especially yourself, when told you are a bad person because it isn't true.

Safety~ma in abundance for those at risk.

Have people been watching the DNC convention? I've been impressed with how they have pulled this off. All new rules and they have stepped up.

ION, it was in the 40s inside my house this morning. What up, summer? Headed to 73F for a high today, but for now I have the heaters running, a big bowl of oatmeal steaming in front of me, and am wearing the full length pink fussy bathrobe.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

The people I know in Vacaville went home for a bit yesterday but then left again, I think.

Yeah, it's been great. I just wept all the way through the state roll call.
