My sister and BIL leave MSNBC on all day long too. I don't get it—it is repetitive and grates on my nerves. I'd so rather read my news (even if I too often end up doomscrolling the news, which is basically the equivalent...). But I'm not much one for that kind of background noise, either. I like the clink of a coffee shop but the tv is too distracting and these days blood pressure raising too.
Y'all. Why is it not Friday yet, when I get a puppy????
As far as I can tell, better MSNBC than Fox ....
any 24 hr news is crazy-making.
I think even watching 2 local news and the evening news every night is too much.
I'm usually not home when the news is on ... but I do get the newspaper every day. But that, at least, is quiet, there's a variety and I can pick and choose what I read and skim things that are marginally interesting. Also comics! intentionally funny stuff!
Yeah, pundit shows should be taken in moderation, though I do think MSNBC is better than Fox. OTOH, I'm really only familiar with Maddow and Hayes. Maybe the other shows aren't as journalistic. Even then, there are plenty of times I get the accurate-but-misleading vibe. When I take in some Fox though, it seems like there is a lot of fever dream.
My mom likes having the TV on for company when she's home alone but she prefers to have on baseball for that. She does watch the local news. She also read the comics everyday, the rest of the newspaper she might read or she might not. Mom is pretty good at staying sane. My dad, I think, wants to stay informed and also will fall asleep with the TV on so if it's repetitive he doesn't so much notice. That said, I don't think he has it on all day so much as he will put on Rachel Maddow or whatever after dinner and just leave it there for the rest of the evening so it's partially that there aren't other things on?
I LOVE YOUR TAGLINE MSBELLE
And PHEW my conference call got rescheduled HALLELU
That makes next Tuesday another 3 conference call day but that is a problem for Future!-t
Thank you all. I have been weepy all day, and I am just so shocked at how hard this hit me. Probably the fact that it is 2020 didn't help.
I didn't even like to watch the news when I was forced to watch 6, 6:30 and 11pm broadcasts. To much News. And my grandpa was basically Archie Bunker and my mom was basically Meathead, so you can imagine the fun dinner table discussions during the Carter Administration. I did end up with a little crush on Frank Reynolds, though. [link]
