My boss clearly didn't want to be doing the appraisal either, she was all "of course we can't do [goal]" and "now is not the best time for [other goal]" and "these dates will all have to be flexible". I guess it's good to have all the good commentary on record although as far as I can tell these appraisals go into a file somewhere and are never seen again. Bah.
Time for an actual break to eat lunch.
Had my performance review for 2019 - 5 stars for me, yay, but no raises, as expected. Incentive to work hard = very low
That's what the money is for!

I have so goddamn much work on my plate right now and so goddamn little energy to do it with. I've basically been on the phone for the last 6 hours without a break and my brain is MUSH.
6 hours on the phone does not sound possible. You are a hero for surviving!
I feel like the implied social contract with my employer is that I will do the minimum amount of work required and they will underpay me for even that. And if they feel like it, lay me off.
I also don't feel like there is a better deal to be had, though, so here we are.
And I will try to stop droning on about it, sorry.
6 hours of in-person meetings would be exhausting enough. 6 hours of video conference calls is basically torture.
Video?!? Oh no, that should not be allowed.
-t, I am so sorry. I wish there was work for you and everyone who needs it at Jim's company: they announced last night that they're adding two more paid holidays in July and August so employees can have a break without using PTO.
Interesting conversation with Ken today, kicked off by his sharing a picture of his new lockpick set. Some of the tenants in his building put locks on their storage units that can't be cut off and then abandoned them when they moved out; Ken has been given permission to have a go at them before they have to deal with all the faff of getting someone in. We have taken bets on how much trash will be found inside them.
He's said that with the state rent increase/eviction moratoriums, they aren't seeing a lot of new tenants, but folks who wanted to stay are happy to renew leases at their current prices. Some people aren't paying rent at all; his take is that a multibajillion-dollar company can afford a bit of guillotine repellent in the form of not being in a hurry to make people homeless.
We're likely to be setting temperature records here in Central Texas. Hitting the century mark and keep on going - the only good news is the air is drier so the heat index won't be making it too much worse.
I have to say I have been super impressed with how Tesla has handled my DIL's pregnancy. First, when she told them she was pregnant they moved her from outside in the air-conditioned, but really still hot, outside service area, to inside. Then last week one of the sales staff tested positive for Covid and they sent her to work from home until they were sure the workplace was safe for her. That and the awesome health insurance and maternity/paternity leave policies have me very grateful. They also sent all the sales staff home, but she is in service.
ION, the governor of my state may be an idiot, but my county, and Miami-Dade county both said they will only have virtual school in the Fall. (also spell check tried to make Dade Dada, which works for me)
