I'm inclined to side with the people who say start the job search now and hold up for a bit on the resigning (though just
knowing
you can when you finally decide to is a little freeing), because things are changing or going to change -- so much depends on the next couple months with Captain Trumps (you could get furloughed again!), they could lay off the library staff because of budget cuts and then you DO get Unemployment, and then after the election we could have a sane responsible President which will make many things seem less stressful.
OTOH, I'm not the one who is ready to cry after a day's work of getting disrespected and ordered into the epidemic equivalent of going over the top into a hail of machine gun fire.
You will have my respect no matter what choices you make.
That is a good point about unemployment eligibility, Theo. But a gamble at this point.

Oh god, the only job posted in the metro area right now is for a children's librarian, a position requiring a masters degree and 3-5 years of experience. Guess how much it pays? $17 an hour. Don't go into librarianship, people.
I make $16 and besides our Youth Services director, there is only one other full time person in our department. It's a brutal business. People ask me if I want to go back and get my MLS. I just cackle.
On the plus side, I get 30 hours a week, paid time off, get to play with lego, manga and read stories.
I love my job more than any I have ever had but it's a part-time gig for me and I came to it late and found a cushy position.
I have adulted today, doing grocery pick-up for the first time (not impressed—in addition to the expected toilet tissue outage they couldn't find Triscuits or store brand veggie pizza, which is ALWAYS in stock!) and speaking to my bank to compare the relative merits of various types of savings and checking accounts.
The reward appears to be that the calico kitten ran up toward me and let me pet her while she was snuggling against her dad with no food in sight. Kitten fur is the softest thing known to humanity!
yay kittens.
we have had SO. MUCH.BARKING.TODAY! 1) it is garbage pick-up day so Bailey would be barking a bit more than usual, BUT I do believe she us remembering Miley and part of it is "HEY! HEY!". 2) If Bailey barks, Miley barks. 3) the contractor came by 4) the electrician is here working.
JUST SO MUCH TO BGARK AT.
Now, of course, when my workday is done - they are both asleep.
flea, I wish you luck with the decision. Like Calli said, work is such a huge chunk of life, it really colors everything when it's infuriating every day.
Well into my second hour on the phone with IT support. This is so difficult.
Yikes, that's a long time on the phone! Is it on hold or actually having to do stuff??
Flea, good luck. No helpful advice.
