Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

In my apartment - the one out of which I will be moving IN TWO DAYS - I've had a chronic problem with leaks from the bathroom upstairs. It's been at least ten years - probably longer. When I started, I asked them to fix it. They replastered and, within a week or so, there were indications that the leak was still leaking. So I asked them to repair it again; same thing. I told them about the leak and pointed out that it wouldn't do much good to replaster without fixing the leak. So every few years, the bathroom ceiling would show signs of the leak, bits of plaster would start falling into the tub/shower; I'd leave it until the leak showed up on the other side of the wall, over the bed. Last time was less than a year ago. The bathroom ceiling started showing signs of leaking and small pieces of plaster falling. Last night, I went home and spotted a start of the leak in the bedroom - looked like a bubble of plaster that had burst. This morning I got up and not only were there large pieces of plaster in the tub, but one BIG piece - about a foot square - had come loose and was hanging along one side. I knocked it down onto a section of newspaper and threw it away. I dread to see what it looks like tonight.

Oh bless big thunderstorm. Remember who's afraid of thunder? That's right, Miley. We're all in the basement where they are not so loud and the washing machine and HVAC drown them out. She is immediately calmer. I am really gonna need some comfy seating down here.

Punishingly Intricate

And maybe a white noise machine for your bedroom?

We're up in my bedroom now and the firework booms are having no effect. I think part of the thunder is an air pressure thing.

She is sound asleep.

That said, I have a white noise app and a nature sounds alarm clock I can use to create background noise.

Folks, I am pretty seriously thinking of resigning from my job. I'd need to give a month's notice, so I need to decide soon if I want to resign July 30. Could y'all help me talk it out?

It's mostly not about safety, even though I am not wild about what we're doing right now. It's about feeling disrespected, and hating it so much that I'm continually on the verge of an unprofessional outburst.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Flea, what would be your reasons to stay?

Disrespected by higher ups? Or by coworkers? Or by the public?

Well, they pay me, and my ability to find another job in my field is limited. This is by far the largest library employer in the region, and I expect everyone to be in hiring freezes for the next two years.

Less practically, I would be leaving my direct supervisor, who I like a lot, and the other 30 people in my department, sort of in the lurch.

Also it's admitting I've failed. I should be able to just not care about stupid decision making and disrespect.

Disrespect from library administration. It's a very top-down culture here; we're told what to do and expected to like it.
