Natter 76: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Foaminess

msbelle, there are always dog walkers ... they'll often cross the street to avoid me (mask or no), but I keep it on, if only to show that I'm trying. I'm coming in to the office every day, since I can't work from home. I do get things done, although I'm far from busy. My main contribution is to work with our accounting department to process and deposit checks that come in (yes! paper checks!).
One thing others might want to be aware of - I saw (somewhere) an item about how in offices/buildings that are empty, any water is stagnating. I've gone through our office and run water through our office coffee maker, emptied the reservoir for our CEO's Keurig machine and I keep the door of our office dishwasher open to prevent mildew. So ... don't know if anyone has an office where that might be applicable, but it's something to consider.
Of course, if stagnant water is in the climate control system, we may be in for a bunch of people coming down with legionnaire's disease (aren't I just a little ray of sunshine?).

They had to put a fence up around our county nursing home. Apparently one of th residents opened a window to a visitor. JFC. COME ON PEOPLE!
SERIOUSLY.
Sun is setting down, post-passover challah dough (my first try! well, as an adult) is rising. I've got 4-5 other tasks for tonight to complete, but then I'm finished. Only problem: I'm starting to feel out of spoons and Can't Evens.
I go through a lot of milk for a single, childfree person who doesn't drink milk. But I make yogurt and eat that for breakfast most days, and that uses about two quarts every 10 days or so. The rest goes into coffee, mashed potatoes, etc.
I'm sourdoughing, but I was already a near-weekly bread baker and being at home to check on a starter while it's getting established was a missing piece. I don't quite get the sudden mass brainworm to jump from "I never make bread and now I'm going to do the big commitment version"
We get a CSA box that also handles milk and eggs, and a meal kit, and we're pretty well loaded up on pantry stuff from the first few weeks of the big homebodying. Coffee is now a subscription from a local roaster. We do a store trip every 10 days or so to get the veggies that don't come from the farm, and cheese, and beer, and hummus, and to try to score in the TP lottery. Basically our habits aren't that radically changed, but it's only because our shopping is already bougie as fuck.
I don't even use milk- I use heavy whipping cream in my coffee and for cooking, but I am one single child free person.
I had liverwurst and dill relish again today. I am pretty low on meat, so I too may venture out today- I also just want to take a walk.
I have an instructor who cannot understand that right now we cannot mail the certificates she has signed to her students- because they are in the office and they are not worth going in for! We have to get approval from the dean to enter the building! We can send them electronically to the students! She is just not getting it. Yes, I know she already signed them in the fall.
I saw that, in Florida, professional wrestling is an essential service. One comment I saw, along with a picture, was that, in Mexico, at least they wear masks.
I found baking soda in the pantry, about a week after I had to substitute ancient baking powder in the banana muffins I made.
The boxed milk really isn't bad for many things, including yogurt making, cereal, and coffee. Don't love it just plain but ymmv. It's basically all they have in Brazil so we have gotten used to it and buy it 15 liters at a time.
Bananas will keep much longer in the fridge - the skin turns black but the inside stays good.
Toddson, is there anyone out while you are walking up the hill? If not, leave the mask off.
I was so annoyed on my walk this morning -- I saw very few other people, but I was the ONLY one with a mask on! I wanted to take mine off too, but kept it on to be a good example. Feh. And yes, I'm always panting.

As a very occasional previous bread-maker, it's literally just the idea of being home to deal with start-up phase. I am resisting, because I will not stay a weekly bread maker, but I get the urge. I mean, I was also about to google how to make my own pastrami. Have I ever bought pastrami at the grocery store? Not in 10+ years.

I just taught my mother that this week!

Talk about avoiding the shallow end of the pool.
