Natter 76: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Foaminess
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Argh indeed. Have a Zoom Easter!
JZ, I'm glad to hear your dad is holding on.
I went for a run in the woods this morning: it was raining and early and I only saw a few people for the first half hour, but a bunch more after that. We were all cautious, but I have decided I'm not running any narrow trails anymore, just ones with enough room for that 6 feet.
It was a very slow run and when I got home I couldn't do all my regular bodywork exercises. Possibly because I spent all day yesterday on the futon, reading. Gotta keep moving as much as I can, I think.
Just made my last COBRA payment. I'm glad not to have to deal with that expense anymore. Giddily made a large credit card payment and immediately regretted it but what the heck, it has to get paid sometime. Also found $31 tucked away in an old wallet, thanks last-year-me.
Had a long conversation with my sister this morning about wills and trusts. Ultimately reassuring to have our affairs squared away, but still rough.
I'm trying to calm down and focus on my freelance assignment, I'm behind schedule, I've got a meeting Tuesday with the manager and I want to be able to tell him I'm back on track, and it's just not happening.
How come I don't have post-it notes? How can I be expected to edit without little post-it notes? What am I, a barbarian?
Okay, I found the post-its. Geez, calm down.
For some people I suspect the trauma response is a kind of reverse-hypochondria, just wanting to really REALLY believe this is some kind of made-up shit that isn't real and isn't going to affect you.
I've been going masked out there, and I know it doesn't make me invincible, but as long as I'm not breathing in as much possible virus and hand-washing and not-face-touching I can pretend at least a little that I'll be OK. It's really mostly that I don't carry it on to vulnerable others that worries me.
Laura, I'm concerned for you and your family, and your SIL because none of that is proper social distancing. The precautions she's taking are not enough based upon CDC recommendations. We really need to flatten the curve.
askye, I'm so sorry.
JZ, I'm glad your father is holding steady. Continued ~ma to you and yours.
Dana, that's good news!
No Easter dinners unless it's with the people who live in your house normally and aren't otherwise quarantined. Send them the article about the family in NJ that had a family dinner, then most got sick, and more than one died.
Maria, I would if I thought they would listen, but they are stubborn. I'm sure if my cousin, the nurse says it's fine, they all think it's fine. Meanwhile, I'm trying to get ltc psyched about an Easter at home. On the plus side, I can make lamb, which most of the people I usually spend Easter with will not eat.
Matt, I'm glad you and yours are safe.
My dad is unchanged... which is good, comparatively. Slightly better than yesterday, and he's now been started on an experimental course of the malaria and lupus treatment. So now we wait for tomorrow and see how he responds to that and to the sedation that's letting his body rest and recuperate.
JZ, I'm glad for the comparatively good news. How are you feeling?
And my aunt was yelling at my mother to still have a big Easter dinner because she was told you can still see "your tribe".
UGH sj. You know, I had some sympathy for my 21-year-old two weeks ago, when I had to take an hour to convince her that she couldn't go to her friend's house anymore, because she's 21, and because it was two weeks ago.
The responsible medical experts who haven't dedicated their mouths to pleasuring Trump are saying not to mix households. Our "tribes" right now are the people with whom we live. That's it. Tell mom to stand her ground.
sj, we call that "testa dura" in our family. It's so frustrating all around. I have no idea what Easter dinner is going to look like for us. This is unprecedented for our family.

Sorry, sj. This hadn't posted when I started my previous reply. I didn't mean to pile on with a bunch of stuff you already know.

Laura, I'm glad Maria said something. We don't want anything to happen to you or your family.
Mom is totally ignoring her sister. We usually have Easter with my step family, and we won't be doing so this year, but I fear my aunt, cousins, and grandfather will be having dinner together.
Maria, that phrase works. Especially since this is the Italian half of the family.
