And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I keep seeing posts with long lists of homeschooling resources and I'm wondering what kind of working-from-home professional actually has that amount of free time?? Yes, I have more flexibility now than I typically would during a day at the office + commute time but it's not like I don't still *have a day job*. I can print out worksheets until I'm blue in the face, but I do not have the time or training to make sure my kids are learning anything from them.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I'm printing up letter practicing sheets and name practice sheets for ltc, but I can't imagine how much harder it will be with older children and a job

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Jess, that's why I shared the public media archive site -- I'm not a parent and have no knowledge of any of this, but throwing on NOVA for five hours has got to be better than nothing, right?

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

We're okay here for now. J works from home anyway and I am being paid for the three weeks school is closed. We went out to our local place for our last breakfast out yesterday and though we sat far away from anyone, I'm regretting it now. Staying home from now on.

Two of my aunts died last week, sadly. Both in their 90s, but it's still sad.

I am so terrified for my grandmother. She's more or less housebound anyway and has round the clock nursing care, but she is also 100 years old and not in great health AND is a social fucking butterfly who loves to have friends over.

I'm terrified for my grandfather. He's in his 90s but very active, and I'm afraid he won't stay in the house.

Swouncing

Oh, Scrappy, I'm so sorry for your family. Two aunts in one week, that must have ben hard.

Because books.

I'm not overly worried for my dad re: the virus (76, not in great health for a few months now, diabetic), because he's not driving now, so he's isolated unless someone takes him out, but I am really concerned about his mental health. He's really down already, and has been for months (due to not being able to drive and a fucked up cataract surgery that left him not seeing well in one eye, so he can't read, which he loves).

And the bakery owner just texted to say we'll stay open for takeout, but we're only going to need one retail person at a time, so all of our hours just got cut by two-thirds, more or less.

Not so nice is that I'm about to ruin a Friday morning for a bunch of people because of a series of unfortunate events and an upset foreign government. - shrift

Scrappy, my condolences. Regardless of age, it still hurts to lose people we love.

Much coping~ma for the parents with kids at home. Do what you need to do to survive.

Amy, hours that have been cut make you eligible to apply for unemployment in PA. Get on the website and apply ASAP.
