Natter 76: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Foaminess
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Those students have already been exposed to each other. You don't contain a pandemic by suddenly putting thousands of potential disease vectors onto airplanes.
That's a great point. It's all based on the hope that they aren't exposed yet, I guess.
Why do people think "what is your disability?" And "is there anything you can do about it?" is small talk?
Because they are assholes?
I did not get the job I interviewed for last week. On one hand, benefits would be nice! On the other, just looking at their open plan office gave me hives.
On the other, just looking at their open plan office gave me hives.
I did some research on built environments and sensory stuff a couple years ago and open plan offices, it will surprise no one, are AWFUL. All the time, to everyone. But they are also like 10x cheaper to build so fuck everyone's mental and physical wellbeing.
Man, if I'm going to be working from home for the next 4-5 weeks, I really need to figure out how to set up some better work spaces. I'm currently hunched over my laptop at my kitchen table which has not been working out great for me so far.
shrift, I got a bed table/laptop table for Tim's surgery recovery at home (as it turns out, he really was only in bed to sleep, and didn't use it as a bed table, although he's claimed it as his dinner TV tray), and it works great as a standing desk when I set it on the dining room table. [link]
So we survived Costco. Actually it wasn't that bad but I'm glad we went this morning before Covid-19 was officially declared a pandemic. They had almost no toilet paper and only Bounty paper towels, we needed the paper towels.
We also spent over what I wanted but now our freezer is looking full and fridge freezer is manageable and organized. I was going to do this anyway.
I had a mini anxiety attack when I saw how busy Costco was but it was normal busy and not panic buying busy. I think our cart was the fullest of everyone's. But we were doing our once a month shop.
Most peple seemed to be acting mostly like normal. There wipes available through out the store but there were older people out and even an older man with an oxygen tank. Not what my choice would have been.
Then on the way home I got anxious about what this will do for my paycheck and I am not going to rehash that train of thought here.
Also I was planning on going to Florida at the end of April and now I'm wondering if I should cancel that. We were going to drive but I don't know what will happen and for scheduling purposes I need to give them 23 days notice of changes. On the other hand I can stay home and self isolate.
If you can't find real sanitary wipes, but you can get baby wipes, take a package of those and pour in a quarter-cup of bleach, then re-seal it up and let it penetrate. Tada, homemade sanitary wipes. (Does assume you have access to wipes and bleach.)
There is all sorts of bullshit disorganization going on in the response to this outbreak, according to some of what my brother said last night. It's a clusterfuck, and the White House is absolutely not helping.
After reading the package of wipes you are only supposed to use 1 wipe per surface to prevent cross contamination. And the are usually really wet and not great to just use directly on the keyboard so I've been taking paper towel and laying wipe on top of it, and then blotting another piece of paper towel until it's saturated and using that to wipe down different things. I do that then use the wipe and then use the soaked bottom paper towel to wipe down the counter. And then repeat as necessary. It looks weird but it works and it also kills time when work is realy slow.
Once I get some lamb, which I could not find at Target yesterday, I should be set for proteins for 2 weeks. I think I'm going to run out of some of my starches before then, I don't have those inventoried as well, but I have more than 1 pound of rice, I think that'll see me through any shortages...
My sister flies back to NY tomorrow. Going to see if there are any wipes available. Her row companion had a pack his wife had sent with him on her way down. She said about everyone on the plane was cleaning their areas.
"Congress' in-house doctor told Capitol Hill staffers at a close-door meeting this week that he expects 70-150 million people in the U.S. — roughly a third of the country — to contract the coronavirus, two sources briefed on the meeting tell Axios."
This is not cool. I'm all about the home delivery!
