Friends don't let friends read "Atlas Shrugged"

A Native American, lesbian fighter (in every sense).

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Yeah, having read a little more of the details, the demographics are great. And voting rights restored to felons in Florida. That's 1.4 million new voters.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

I had therapy this morning, so I was able to vent, and I feel a little better now. Thanks, Steph.

What is even happening?

I have thoughts, but mostly, I think feel like Chidi, what with this fork grinding away in the garbage disposal that is my brain.

Last night, David Hogg's little sister, Lauren Hogg (of Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas) tweeted that she hadn't been so scared since February 14th. I think seeing that crushed me harder than any individual loss. I just kept thinking, "When are we going to stop failing our kids?" (I was going to link the tweet, but she's since deleted.)

All I wanted was control of the House, and we got it. Sad about Beto, but not surprised. I'll be thrilled if a recount pulls it out for Abrams. And I am thrilled that Walker and Kobach are out. Nasty fucking men. Go be toadies for Trump.

It's all I expected, but not all I wanted, and I let myself hope yesterday, because I watched the news non-stop. Today I'm trying to take these close races in places like FL, TX, and GA as signs that America is still alive and out there, we just have to wake her all the way up to what is going on.

It may be better for the Dems as a party (I mean in a deep way) that we didn't sweep. I do think we have to stop trying to woo back the people we've lost, and stop fielding compromise candidates. We have to really run on what we believe in. That Gillum and O'Rourke got as close as they did means the progressive message resonates, and it just needs more time to spread, and it needs the party to truly get behind it and make that happen.

Suck it Kris Kobach. SUCK IT!

But most of all this.

Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe

I had therapy this morning, so I was able to vent, and I feel a little better now. Thanks, Steph.

Venting is good! I'm glad you feel a little better, Tom.

I'm seeing friends on FB who were hoping for a massive blue wave are really discouraged today. And I get it, no question. I guess after the last 2 years, I feel so beat up and bruised, politically, that taking the House is a damn good win, and I feel great about it.

I wanted a massive blue wave, but I wasn't expecting it the way I was expecting Hillary Clinton to win in 2016. So I'm good today. Which is a nice surprise.

And in t melodrama TRAGIC t /melodrama news...I went to Aldi this morning at 9 to get their cheese Advent calendar, which was available in stores this morning. They had already sold out by 9 a.m., and I missed getting one by about 15 damn minutes. Curse my need for breakfast.

Very much this, for me. I was just disappointed about Beto because he really seems like someone who will go the distance eventually, and could be a real force for change.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

The results in Michigan were pretty good. The newly elected Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General are all Democratic women. We also kept a US Senate seat (with another Dem. woman), and picked up a US House seat (to another Dem. woman). A couple of ballot proposals passed that should improve voting in the future (easier registration and voting, reduced gerrymandering). Since I still hope to move back to MI (if I can ever find a job there), this all makes me very happy about my once and future state.

And none of us deserving the cruelty or the grace -- Leonard Cohen

I was disappointed last night--about Beto, about a couple of surprise Senate losses. But this morning, I'm pretty pleased. There really is a lot to feel good about.

Oh no! I was really looking forward to you having a cheese Advent calendar!

Apparently Target also is going to have one, so maybe they'll have adequate stocks. Aldi is one of those places where they get limited amounts of stuff and then they're done. Target seems more on the ball with inventory.

And maybe I'll just make my own cheese Advent calendar! That could be great.

Coding and Sleeping

Having my Senator, McCaskill, lose is pretty hard. However, the dems got the house, I didn't think they had a chance at the Senate so that's not a disappointment, and Kobach lost which is awesome. I may live in Missouri, but I feel more connected to Kansas (where I grew up and where my taxes go) so Kobach's defeat is pretty exciting for me.
