I'm working from home for the next two weeks, and unfortunately I actually have a shit-ton to do because I'm going away for two weeks in January which means I have to front-load a TON of stuff I'd normally put off until after the holidays.

Well, they also want me to not take a vacation day if I just call into a meeting! But it is a goal for the new year. But also 10 weeks!!! I am now friends with a programmer who is about ten years older than I am and we are the holdouts where we don't want to get an advanced degree to make us qualified for what we are already doing. He basically takes all of December off.
Thank goodness my mother came in with the mail, and I've handled kitchen surfaces and hid some things in the spare room, and now I think I am actually ready for Last Looks tomorrow! Which is good because I got voluntold to do flowers at church before choir.
Woohoo, just got the nod for even earlier going home, yay!
I have to bake 2 pumpkin pies and a pan of cornbread tonight, but I mostly want to go to Best Buy and buy an iPad. (They kept sending me emails with their Apple sale, and I've finally decided I need an iPad [for all values of "need" that are defined as "just a want that I can fulfill because I worked too much this year and got paid well for it"].) We'll see. It seems foolhardy to go shopping the night before Christmas Eve. But Best Buy is open until 11 p.m., so maybe I'll go out at 10 and everyone will be gone.
Less foolhardy than going on Christmas Eve, though, right?
David, when does Matilda hear on her application?
Timelies all!
Officially, tomorrow is a holiday for me. In reality, I'm going in to work for most of the day, because there are patients being treated, and therefore, samples to process.
Sold one of the three big pieces of furniture! woohoo!!!
David, when does Matilda hear on her application?
We got our audition date, which is on February 1st. So that will be a combo of interview, written part, and a group project. That's about two hours.
If she passes the audition (along with them looking at her film and essay) then the school sends their recommendations to the district, which will then juggle according to some diversity stuff that they try to keep hidden because they keep getting sued about it.
So we won't find out until early April when all the school assignments go out.
She will have to be in the top 10-12% of applicants to get in. But I think her letter of recommendation from her teacher will be a strong endorsement. And he's the head of the biggest media program for the biggest Middle School feeder. So that should carry some weight.
Her film was good, I thought. And so was her essay.
It's going to be tricky though because a bunch of her closest friends are also applying to SotA (in other disciplines - creative writing, visual art) and it will be tough if they don't all get in. And they won't all get in.
