Woohoo, just got the nod for even earlier going home, yay!

I have to bake 2 pumpkin pies and a pan of cornbread tonight, but I mostly want to go to Best Buy and buy an iPad. (They kept sending me emails with their Apple sale, and I've finally decided I need an iPad [for all values of "need" that are defined as "just a want that I can fulfill because I worked too much this year and got paid well for it"].) We'll see. It seems foolhardy to go shopping the night before Christmas Eve. But Best Buy is open until 11 p.m., so maybe I'll go out at 10 and everyone will be gone.
Less foolhardy than going on Christmas Eve, though, right?
David, when does Matilda hear on her application?
Timelies all!
Officially, tomorrow is a holiday for me. In reality, I'm going in to work for most of the day, because there are patients being treated, and therefore, samples to process.
Sold one of the three big pieces of furniture! woohoo!!!
David, when does Matilda hear on her application?
We got our audition date, which is on February 1st. So that will be a combo of interview, written part, and a group project. That's about two hours.
If she passes the audition (along with them looking at her film and essay) then the school sends their recommendations to the district, which will then juggle according to some diversity stuff that they try to keep hidden because they keep getting sued about it.
So we won't find out until early April when all the school assignments go out.
She will have to be in the top 10-12% of applicants to get in. But I think her letter of recommendation from her teacher will be a strong endorsement. And he's the head of the biggest media program for the biggest Middle School feeder. So that should carry some weight.
Her film was good, I thought. And so was her essay.
It's going to be tricky though because a bunch of her closest friends are also applying to SotA (in other disciplines - creative writing, visual art) and it will be tough if they don't all get in. And they won't all get in.
A productive day indeed, msbelle!
Hec, April is such a long time to wait to find out! I hope at least one of Matilda's friends gets in with her. (See how I simply assume that of course Matilda will get in. That's the power of positive thinking, there.)
Some years ago, a friend of mine (my Good Ex) gave me a candy cane as part of a gift box. I said how pretty, and hung it up on a wall decoration. Today I found it, said Mmm sugar, and popped a piece in my mouth.
THAT FIEND
IT TASTED LIKE BARF
Knowing him, I really should've expected it.
I hope he gets something that tastes like FEET
I'm laughing with you, Zen.
I now have a physical copy of my birth certificate, and can go to the Registry tomorrow! Of course, the plumber is supposed to be coming in the morning to do something about the overflow from the furnace. (it's been leaking for the past couple days, but at least I have been able to jury-rig a wet-dry vac hose so that the water goes into the sump pit instead of all over the furnace floor.)
I should see if Rosemary feels up to dealing with that -- she can get pretty vague about what is recommended and what the options are. Most of all, I want to know if there is something that I should be doing -- opening a valve or checking on something, or if this over-pressure issue is just a periodic thing that happens with these systems.
I actually went to Best Buy at 5:30 and bought an iPad. But I really do hafta bake pies and cornbread before I can set it up and play with it.
