We had another round of arguments over What Temperature to Keep the House. Especially when the utility bill was paid . It was $260. It is like 55F outside and Matthew's mom had the heat in the main part of the house up to 85 while we were out. So MAtthew got mad and yelled about , his Mom claimed she will get sick if it gets any lower in the house and I'm pointing out if we keep it as warm as she wants it to be the utility bill will be double or triple.

I finally decided the only thing I can do is give up trying to wear anything cold weather related inside the house except when I'm getting ready to leave. I asked if we could agree to leave the temperature for the living room around 68-70 and turn the heat down at night. His mom kind of agreed but started going on about how cold it is and how once it gets colder we may have to turn up the heat and how tonight it is supposed to really really cold. It's 54 F outside and tonight the low should be 36F. Tomorrow the high should be 61 and she's acting like it's below freezing.

But she agreed (although I don't know if she'll keep from adjusting the thermostat) and I ordered a 2 pack of digital indoor thermometers so we can track the heat and be more accurate about how it is.

People do get more sensitive to the cold as they age and circulation becomes poorer. In my dad's case we compensated by keeping the house on the warmish side of reasonable temps and dressing him in warm clothes with blankets handy, not by turning the whole place into a sauna.

Are space heaters an option, so she can crank the heat up in whatever room she's in? Maybe an electric blanket for her room at night?

A number of the employees at my medical practices keep space heaters under their desks because the offices are so cold with AC blasting. That might be a good option.

She has 2 space heaters and an electric blanket AND she wears either her robe or a jacket and other layers. And that is kind of the issue. I think her room is around 89 (I don't know) so the house feels so much colder than it is and then it's a shock going outside.

She is anemic but hasn't gone to the doctor about it and hasn't been taking iron supplements. The heat hasn't been on in the spare room , where the computer is, and it's fairly comfortable in here for me and the living room is just a touch too warm it is what it is.

Yikes, askye! Now I'm wondering if I should google what kind of a symptom 'extremely cold-feeling' (or however you'd medically term it) and diagnose from far away.

Note: there may well be problems where even a little cold is a bad idea -- my Mom had trigeminal neuralgia and stepping into a blast of cold air could almost knock her off her feet because the facial pain it kicked off was like an electric shock.

She sounds super-hard to live with -- ltc is quite reasonable by comparison (and certainly age-appropriate).

Timelies all!

Ugh, it's been a Monday. Gary got up at stupid o'clock to catch his flight for yet another business trip. I had to wrangle Mr. S to get him fed, medicated and dressed, in that order. Christmas music was playing all morning long in the lab.(Yep, I got LDB'ed already) And to top it off, when I got back from lunch my computer decided it wouldn't accept my password or read my ID card. Both things worked when I used them in another computer, so I don't know why my computer lost it's mind. Called the help desk who said they'd put me in as high priority. Didn't see or hear any IT people the rest of the day.

Oh, yeah, still grey and rainy.
