Matilda has the whole week off and spent the night at her new friend, Amelia's, house.
For the first two years of Middle School Matilda's close friendships were all based on the people she knew from elementary school. But this year she's finally branching out a little bit as she gets more teen-ish.
She has to finish her application for School of the Arts by Dec. 13th, including a short film (she's applying to the Film program there). There's also an essay. I can tell it's going to be very stressful on the lead up to it, but I did get her to work on her application on Monday so we got some stuff done.
JZ's brother and family have come down for Thanksgiving, and they will be coming into the City today. This is the brother with two kids, and the cousins will be very excited to see Matilda. It's cold and rainy but we'll try to make an outing between drizzles.
I have lot of house cleaning and food prep to do today. To accommodate all of JZ's sibs being in town (and her mother) we'll do Thanksgiving itself at her dad's house, but I'm also cooking my own Thanksgiving on Friday with Emmett and his mom.
So I have to dry brine my turkey today and make fancy mac and cheese for Emmett and maybe the dressing today. Though the fridge is completely stuffed to capacity.
I'll be doing the port/orange cranberry sauce too. Which I straight up stole from Ple.
I'm at work. A bunch of people are out because people always take vacation days on holiday weeks, and additional people are setting up the outlet sale at the new location rather than working in the office (it takes more setting up to do it in a new location, WHO COULD HAVE PREDICTED THAT (I'm sure we did predict that, actually, just underestimated it, but still)) so I'm a little whelmed picking up the slack but will leave after 6 hours so that's nice
Timelies, folks. *waves, stares at kettle*
I'm sorry your morning isn't going well, Sophia, and that you're at work, flea.
We're doing Alton Brown's turkey tikka masala tomorrow; I picked two thighs up from the T&C freezer case Monday, and they're still just short of bricklike.
I spent my morning at work dicking around and talking to people, so now I have more work to do than will get done before our 1pm dismissal. Oh well!
I'm paralyzed with how much work I need to do before going up to my folks' this afternoon
Come on, lisah! (and Jesse and -t!)
I've brought some of the decorations up. Safeway had winterberry branches, the pruning shears were in the storage cupboard down in the garage, and since I'd already moved a bunch of stuff to get at the box with the garden tools . . . .
I'm in theory working, but I think most of my practices are closed, or at least they aren't calling me.

Oh! That looks good. I am doing a regular turkey, but brined in an orange juice concoction, because Florida.
I got cute paper table cloths with puzzles and coloring options and stuff and SIL is bringing crayons and markers. Also it is supposed to be a super nice day so I told people to bring bathing suits.
Good luck with the double dose of Thanksgiving, David! I hope the weather isn't too awful for the Buffistas. Seems a lot of the country is a mess.
Go lisah Go!!
DH told me he is bringing his basketball team here Friday to get all the Christmas stuff from storage and they are going to decorate for me. To understate, he does a lot for them, so for a bunch of pizza and drinks I'll get the manger scene set up, and a ton of lights on the house, and probably my fake tree assembled too!
I went to their first home game last night, and they won.
Turkey tikka masala and orange brined turkey both sound delish! We are having something called salt and pepper turkey breast from Whole Foods? I think it's just like regular roast turkey, but I guess I'll find out tomorrow. I also bought drumsticks and thighs that could be braised in red wine a la Serious Eats but I don't think we're going to do that tomorrow. It's going to be (1) 5K and It's-It (2) mimosas and warming up food made by someone else (3) dinner and wine (4) pie and tea. Probably with some football watching. Don't know what will be paired with that, though.
