Happy Birthday Aurelia!

How can I be this gronk-y when I got a full night's sleep and multiple naps over the weekend?

Happy Birthday, Aurelia!

My old office was around the corner from the AMA. I gave the tower some elaborate fuck off gestures, or at the very least a stink eye, whenever I walked by it.

Every time I'm there for a meeting, I give the finger to the tower. It's very soothing.

Happy birthday Aurelia!

I will also be briefly visiting Chicago, although with far less disruption (I would hope) than the Cheeto in Chief will bring. Details in F2F.

Yikes to all the fires!!

I dropped my bff off at the airport last night and promptly came home and went to bed with a headache. This morning it's still lurking. Grrrr.

Ugh. My job just makes me despair for humanity sometimes. I had an article last week about the differences in mortality rates between black and white patients with pancreatic cancer (I know you'll be shocked -- shocked! -- to hear that black patients had higher mortality rates) that basically boiled down to "because racism." (Seriously, the authors went to some impressive linguistic gymnastics to say "this is because of racism," without actually using the word "racism.")

Today's article is about how homeless patients with cardiovascular conditions receive poorer treatment (or no treatment) compared with non-homeless patients with the same conditions, and it basically boils down to "because fuck the homeless." [edit: To be clear, the article is really compassionate toward homeless people, and is pretty angry about the huge differences in mortality rates between homeless patients and non-homeless patients.]

Bah. (Not as entertaining as the article about STIs that got the word "Chlamydia" stuck in my head to the tune of "Lydia, the tattooed lady.")

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I'm worrying about all the fires in North AND south CA.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Happy birthday, aurelia!

I'm worrying about the wildfires too.

I've wasted three weeks with anxiety and depression, and I'm done with it. (Probably actually not.) I'ma do some stuff today, including following up about some freelance work.

The one thing I've learned from my strange life is that you don't know what's going to happen. It might be bad and it might be good, but it's going to be a surprise.

Ann, that's a ferret.

So I'm not the only one?

No fire near me, and I have power, but I woke at 1 am convinced the house was on fire, it smelled so bad. The AQ here is awful, even I the office you can smell it.

My sister lost power and is sick, so she's camping at my house with my air filter and lots of tea.
