Natter 76: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Foaminess
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I woke up this morning with the urge to spend a fair amount of quality time in my bathroom. I thought I'd just be a little late to work and texted my supervisor thusly. I then decided to take advantage of one of the two-hour PTO blocks we get that can be used to come in late or leave early, and I text that to him. He then asks "Can I ask why?" I resent having to justify my actions, so I said "I thought it would be better to spend a lot of time in my own bathroom." He wanted to know. I'm debating what to say when I get in. I know he'll come over to awkwardly see how I'm feeling--statistics geeks like him don't do well with human interaction--and I think I'm going to innocently ask why he needed to know why I needed the time. He'll fumble something about wanting to make sure everything was all right, and I'll shrug it off and offhandedly say it seemed weird.
It's bad enough he enjoys tracking everyone minute by minute, he only needs to know "I will be in by this time."
He then asks "Can I ask why?"
"None of your fucking business. I'm allowed to take the time I've earned by company policy."
Or you could always fall back on "I just gave birth to a large salamander and I'd like to teach it French before I come in."
You guys, I just asked our graphic designer for a recommendation of a MS-included serif font, and he said TNR! I am surprised.
Also, and I feel like Dana might know what I'm talking about, I came into to work, got some stuff done, had a meeting, ate lunch, and now they want me to keep working???
PS: I slept 9 hours last night and do feel like a new person, but still not one that wants to work a full day.
Connie, in your situation (and I'm lucky enough to have taken time off for more -- sensitive -- reasons without being questioned), I'd be tempted to tell the supervisory exactly what was going on. In full, gory, and excruciating detail.
I never tell my boss anything beyond "I don't feel well" even when I want to! So when I'm interviewing, it's not so obvious.
You guys, I've never been in a job this long without interviewing or at least thinking about my next move. It's kind of amazing. (NB: I've been here 2.5 years, which says something about my other jobs!)
Jesse, you even had a meeting! How can you possibly be expected to work more?
Have I posted this bit from a job posting before?

The company works in the outdoor recreation industry, so it's not out of left field, but every time I see that, I think, "...probably not the job for me."
Oy, I just saw that the planned safety power outage is supposed to start 12:01 tomorrow morning and last through Thursday afternoon! I thought it was just gonna be a few hours. Luckily, my house shows on the map as if it will not be affected, I hope that turns out to be true

I had a meeting that ended at 4:30 and had to work more after THAT!

OK then!
