Staff writer at The Atlantic Kaitlyn Tiffany's EVERYTHING I NEED I GET FROM YOU: HOW FANGIRLS CREATED THE INTERNET AS WE KNOW IT, a dive into the world of the young women who, beginning with their love for One Direction, shaped the language of the social internet

Um, what. I was with it until it got to "One Direction". Da fuq?

Because books.

Um, what. I was with it until it got to "One Direction". Da fuq?

Exactly. I mean, One Direction was, like, ten minutes ago.

Our wings are not tired.

That was my first thought, after the laughter. I had to look it up and One Direction was 2010!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I mean, maybe the modern internet only starts then????

I have decided on the Morton Salt Girl.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I had to look it up and One Direction was 2010!

2010 WAS FIVE MINUTES AGO.

The 1990s were "last decade" AT MOST. FIGHT ME.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

AGREED JESS

I'm thinking I don't know what "social internet" means and if I did maybe that would make more sense?

Because books.

Ooh, the Morton Salt girl is perfect!

Our wings are not tired.

There were fan groups operating via BBS in the early 80s. Not sure where I would define the line for social internet.

LOL. This is suddenly reminding me of several of my friends who got into some gay tv shows and suddenly are finding out about fan culture, and are shocked when I know things about fanfic and shipping and whatnot. I'm like "Sure, I don't watch YOUR show, but...y'all. Been there and done that, read the stories and LITERALLY had the t-shirt"
