Yeah, I still remember packing up my desk in March of last year, sure I'd be back well before my birthday. The fact that we're still here, over a year later....it really does weigh on you. I mean, I'm glad we've finally got light at the end of the tunnel, but it's been a long-ass tunnel.
But hey, allow me to be the first to say, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY EVE, ND!!"
On Friday - 4/16 - DC is celebrating Emancipation Day, for what that's worth. In previous years, it would fall on 4/15 and give everyone an extra day to file their taxes.
Does anyone have any experience of the US side of the falls? Other than my friends in PA choosing to take me to the Canadian side instead and, uh, Wonderfalls, I know nothing about it.
I went when I was attending a wedding in Buffalo. I mostly remember it being crowded and the little rain jackets being really warm (you get/buy a cheap slicker that is not much more than a garbage bag to keep you dry at the falls)

I got the little rain poncho when I did "Journey Behind the Falls" on the Canadian side last time I was there, also in June, for my 30th (holy cow, I'm old) birthday.
Turned 50 in January. My best friend and I have birthdays one day apart - me the 7th, him the 8th. We'd been planning on a big ol' Half Century Blowout Bonanza for a couple years. But, like ND...
Looks around at country. And at the world.
...well, fuck.

Yes, it has been a rough year or more now for celebrations of any kind. We had our 30th anniversary last year, but skipped doing anything.
My sister had her 70th last year April 30th and my other sister had to cancel her plan to visit and celebrate. This year however, all 3 of us are fully vaccinated and plan on a hug fest for her 71st birthday.
Darn you, wee Plei, for introducing me to this site.
For those of you following along at home (but not on Facebook), it seems that Baltimore/DC is the winner for birthday shenanigans! The plan is to fly in on Friday, June 18 and stay with msbelle, leave the following Wednesday or Thursday, and see as many of you lovely people as is geographically feasible!
It's like winning the Olympic bid!
oh, as usual dear ... this story seems to belong here
