sj, I remember the day the crib walls came down in our house. One of our twins had learned to climb out, so we would come in their room in the morning and find him sitting on the floor in the midst of a large pile of books, and his brother, still in the crib, also sitting in a large pile of books that had been pushed through the slats for him by the climber.
We knew it was time to convert the cribs, but we also saw ourselves in these boys who had conjured up their parents idea of heaven (a pile of books with nothing to do but read) as the first reward for learning to escape.
That's adorable, Rick. She woke up at 3 this morning and "read" to herself for at least an hour. We're both exhausted today.
I'm listening to a book in my car because ltc fell asleep on the way home from school. Pick up was awful today and I'm not waking the little monster up.

That is adorable!!! Omg. (Especially the sharing books with the sibling who can't get out)
ION, Kirk Acevedo followed me on Twitter the other day. I have no idea why.
My older brother celebrated learning how to escape his crib by leaping out and giving himself concussion. While my mother, pregnant with me, was in front of the television awaiting the moon landing. Instead she had to take him to hospital. One small step indeed.
This is making me really thirsty for soda. I've never been a fan of colas, I like water and drink a lot of it, and I'm not supposed to drink carbonated beverages at all because of the IC. However. I might have to rummage in the fridge to see if there's anything fizzy and slightly sweet tucked away in a corner..
Found a 1/2 size tonic water. Mmm.
Our crib was butted up against our bed with the side down because that was the most convenient for me. Probably just as well that I didn't attempt it because Bobby was an accomplished climber. Up the ladder almost to the roof at 18 months. (silly dad leaving it next to the house!) He was also a stacker. I found him with chairs with boxes and books on top of them so he could get to upper cabinets. Amazing he didn't break his neck.
Obviously not for everyone, but both the boys were in our room until they wanted to use their room. We had the crib on the side of the bed and a single bed lengthwise at the foot of the bed. Our bedroom was like wall to wall bed. AND they went to work with us until they were 2 since we worked together at our own business. I don't remember what age they started using their own room more than mine. When they were 5 & 7 they got their separate rooms away from each other. They are both gone now, but when they visit and I happen to be in bed reading I end up with grown man child jumping on my bed to talk to me.
