On my seventh birthday, I wanted a toy fire truck, and I didn't get it, and you were real nice about it, and then the house next door burnt down, and then real firetrucks came, and for years I thought you set the fire for me. And if you did, you can tell me!

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Oh, good, we're going to argue about the same thing we argued about last week.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I am seriously going to lose my mind.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Son, you don't know shit in this life until you figure out you don't know shit.

TRUTH.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

Ugh, Dana. Your meetings sound torturous.

I'm up and dressed waiting for our repair man to come look at the leaky roof. ltc is still sleeping.

Along those lines, apparently the Youngs on my team are worked up about some restructuring that happened yesterday. We didn't get to have a meeting with our boss until after the all-staff email went out, but guess what? The restructuring doesn't actually affect us! My boss now has some additional people under her, but everything about my specific team stays the same. Just relax, people! This is a way bigger deal for a lot of other people.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I just kind of snapped at people who were about to dig in to an issue we voted on last week. Then there was silence.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

And now we can't even agree what we're voting on.

Because books.

Dana's meeting reports always seem very Waiting for Godotish.

I have a Young, who is 20, and while he's pretty sensible, it's still sort of half endearing, half disheartening to listen to him and his friends talk about the world. (i.e. they have no clue that they don't know shit yet.)

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

I found out yesterday that materials I'd worked on for an external group—materials that members of that group had already approved—had been deemed unworthy by another, higher-up member of the group. So, in the grand tradition of things rolling down-hill, it's all come to rest at my feet, and I've been yanked off the project. My manager has called "bullsh*t" in a loud, clear voice. He's made it plain that this will have no effect on my upcoming yearly review, that he values my work, and that the reports he's received from the other people I've worked with have all been downright glowing. So, it's not likely to affect my job significantly, other than me no longer working on materials for Those People (as they have been renamed in my head). Still, it's been a while since my insecurity demons have had quite so much to nosh on.

Since I work at a university I have a lot of Youngs around me. On the whole I find them endearing. On the other hand, they're locked out of my office suite, so maybe that's part of it.

Ugh, Calli, that's shitty. I'm glad your manager has your back.

Dana's meeting reports always seem very Waiting for Godotish.

That's totally it! Good call.
