Thrive to spite them

It's been snowing off and on, nothing has stuck yet but it's started coming down again and the temperature has dropped.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

BTW, I bought a six-pack of Sierra Nevada Beer Camp because I thought I remembered that Nora was in on that this year. Am I right?

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I just realized I turned two into Buffistas.

I only turned one. No food for me.

I was searching for Firefly info and found a Joss post here. I poked around a little, read the FAQ, and started lurking. Not long after that I was on AIM with NoiseDesign and quoting stuff to him (from literary maybe?) which got him to check it out. I think we de-lurked at pretty much the same time.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Belatedly showing up as a belated Buffy fan. My friend Diana, who was matron of honor at my wedding, had been nagging me for over a year to watch the show, because it was just SO for me. I finally did, and happened to catch the original airing of Hush. Which, talk about an episode to hook you on a show. I was already on Table Talk, and I found the Buffy thread, but I'm pretty sure I mostly lurked for awhile. Like I do now!

Danger is my middle name, only I spell it R. u. t. h. - Tina Belcher.

20 years later, my brother finally watched Buffy. His gateway was Dr. Horrible and then Firefly.

I found out later that my youngest sister had been watching all along, d'oh!

I started watching with the first episode, but my first online fandom was figure skating boards. Then they got boring and I was watching West Wing on Bravo, I think, and there were these funny ads for Salon.com. I finally checked it out and discovered Table Talk and the Buffy thread and the rest is shared history!

I really don't think I would have made it through the years without you guys. I was completely out of touch with my family and my best friends were still working in the theatre while I was in the printing business. I had only on geek friend who shared my X-files fandom with. But, when he left the company we worked for I felt alone.

Then I found you guys. ita always scared the hell out of me at first, because she would call anyone on careless shit. I always wanted to be as fierce as she was.

Since we became a community here, this has been home. I don't visit as much as I should, because so many of us on on the Book of Face now. But, this space is sacred to me.

HUGS ALL AROUND!

this mess was yours / now your mess is mine

I'm editing an article on whether people who receive blood transfusion from donors who are young experience any advantages (beyond, you know, getting the needed blood). And suddenly I'm thinking this was written by vampires.

(The conclusion is no, the age -- and sex -- of the donor has no appreciable effect on the recipient. But I'm still bemused that these secret vampire authors felt that it needed to be a research paper.)

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I lurked occasionally at Salon and then it went pay-for-play and I mentioned to Jilli, who I didn't know very well yet (we'd been at a SeaGoth thrifting thing) that I was sad because I didn't know where the Buffy talk had gone after that and she directed me to WX and the rest is history.

It was to me, I think, that Cybervixen said that once you've delurked once, you're pretty much lurkless.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I stumbled across the Table Talk forum back in 2001, but I distinctly recall running into ita before that in the thread making fun of the Miss Cleo commercials.

Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

I watched Buffy from the beginning - it helped get me through a rough patch. I got here, somehow, by looking for someplace to share my Firefly love. So I think I've been here since 2002. It's hard to remember there was a time before here.
