Natter 75: More Than a Million Natters Served
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I'm editing an article on whether people who receive blood transfusion from donors who are young experience any advantages (beyond, you know, getting the needed blood). And suddenly I'm thinking this was written by vampires.
(The conclusion is no, the age -- and sex -- of the donor has no appreciable effect on the recipient. But I'm still bemused that these secret vampire authors felt that it needed to be a research paper.)
I lurked occasionally at Salon and then it went pay-for-play and I mentioned to Jilli, who I didn't know very well yet (we'd been at a SeaGoth thrifting thing) that I was sad because I didn't know where the Buffy talk had gone after that and she directed me to WX and the rest is history.
It was to me, I think, that Cybervixen said that once you've delurked once, you're pretty much lurkless.
I stumbled across the Table Talk forum back in 2001, but I distinctly recall running into ita before that in the thread making fun of the Miss Cleo commercials.
I watched Buffy from the beginning - it helped get me through a rough patch. I got here, somehow, by looking for someplace to share my Firefly love. So I think I've been here since 2002. It's hard to remember there was a time before here.
I have mentioned before that I found this group as a consequence of becoming an atheist. I took a course on moral philosophy (as part of my Economics degree) to work out my beliefs on morality in its aftermath. After that, I joined a message board run by Time Magazine on faith and spirituality. When Time shut that down, the community moved to Utne, and when that proved impractical, to Table Talk. And there it was that I wandered about some off the other threads, and found one devoted to this show I'd been quite enjoying, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (In keeping with the general theme, I think my first post was on Anselm's Ontological Proof.)
The first episode I ever watched was Passion. I wouldn't say I followed everything that was going on, but it was an excellent introduction to the show.
I found us on Salon, as I was wandering through Table Talk, desperately searching for something to entertain myself as I was temping. This place has been part of my bedrock since, and I've found some of my best friends here, and without this board, I wouldn't have the awesome life I do now. So, I'm sorry I'm not here as much, but rest assured I think about here almost every day.

My sister!
Ah, shit. We have a major, complicated systems upgrade on a tight deadline, scheduled for Tuesday. And now it is increasingly looking as if we're gonna be whomped by a big snow starting Monday night. And I need to replace my wiper blades, in freezing temps, before that as well. This will be interesting.
Day 1 of vacation has started out wonderfully. Slept in a bit. Someone else made coffee and I am now getting about an hour alone. Next up is seeing my brother's new house. The rental they are in is aesthetically very nice but has a lot of practical issues, like no light fixtures in rooms.
I'd been watching Buffy since halfway through the first episode, when a friend called me and said
"OMG YOU MUST TURN ON THE TV AND WATCH THIS DO NOT ARGUE".
I found us through Salon and Table Talk. Another friend offhandedly mentioned reading spoilers and speculation there, so I wandered over and then realized that I'd found my people.
