The most recent high school weirdness I had was discovering that a guy who was a giant goof in high school is now a well-respected doctor and has taught at Johns Hopkins.
Edit: And also got a Masters in public health at Harvard. Life is so weird.

There's something that has made me uneasy about politics now. I mean aside from the obvious. It's that I get this feeling that conservative reps are, well, kinda villains. I find that really unsettling and it makes me question myself.
I don't get how this is news. I mean, Reagan's policies killed gay men in the 80s. Plus this:
My experience has seen people that were all about getting rid of the horrible restrictions on pollution that are killing our industry, except the plant next to my playground. Hatred for all 'those people', except those I happen to have worked with or family, and they are exceptions. Screw the homeless or disabled, except when it is this exception or that, generally close to home. The inability to see beyond their own backyard. eta: and of course love the guns until their loved one is shotMy experience has seen people that were all about getting rid of the horrible restrictions on pollution that are killing our industry, except the plant next to my playground. This isn't new.

Ha! The fact that my best friend from college is a Hopkins doc makes me expect them to be more goofy in various ways than not.

Oh god, a guy I dated in college who I thought probably wasn't actually that smart (local, football player) turned out to be like top of his class in some science and went on to be a pediatrician.
Wow. I did not watch Trump's press conference today, but I'm reading some of the write-ups and it sounds like it more even more insane than usual.
Timelies all!
I don't know what happened to most of the people I went to high school with, and I don't particularly care. (Am not on Facebook, and would not be looking for high school classmates if I were. I was glad to get out of there.)
zuisa - I know! I got texts from friends linking to reactions and I was like, "What happened?"

I watched very little. Mostly I had it muted until it was over. He talked for over an hour! What I heard was... bold faced lie... challenge... excuse of that is what he heard... lies... absurd exaggerations... whining about being picked on... bitching about the press... lies... absurd exaggerations. Seriously, I so badly want the press to stop covering this bullshit.

Same here. There were 2 people that were friends on FB prior to the great political purge of '16. An old boyfriend, and a friend that was born a couple months before me and was my neighbor for the first 18 years of life. Bye bye to both.
"I don't think there's ever been a president elected who in this short period of time has done what we've done," Trump said.
I have to give him credit for this, he's not wrong...
The TV was on in the break room when I went to get Cheetos, coincidentally, and just hearing that goddamn voice put me on edge, I don't even know what he was saying.
I don't understand my students. For my online classes, each week, there are a few videos to watch, a couple of quick questions to answer in between the videos, a longer homework assignment, and a quiz where they have to explain their reasoning. I generally get about half the material posted by Monday, and the other half posted by Wednesday, and all of it due the following Tuesday. This week, I screwed things up, and I'm posting the material later than usual, so I'm making it due next Thursday, rather than next Tuesday as usual. Several students have complained to me that this is messing up their schedule, because they always watch all the videos and do all the work on Tuesday, and they'll have to rearrange things if it's due on Thursday. I'm confused. It's still entirely possible to do the work on Tuesday even if it's not due until Thursday. I changed the due date because I was worried about students who usually do the work much earlier than it's due -- students who do it the day that it's due should be fine.
