Before the election I'd suggested to someone that the family would have to sit himself down and have an intervention ... or find a nice place in the country where he couldn't do any harm.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, butt kicking, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
And in regard to the escape room - we had a team-building exercise in mid-November at one of those places. I was really bad at it. However, I was the ONLY ONE who knew that the safe is always behiind a picture. Obviously, no one else read Agatha Christie.
However, I was the ONLY ONE who knew that the safe is always behind a picture.
So tomorrow - Step 1 - look behind any pictures. Got it.
How could nobody else know that? The safe is behind the picture in every TV show and movie and novel ever.
Those escape room things seem like they would make the worst of my opposing tendencies of wanting to be nice, polite and a people pleaser, and also really wanting to be the best at things.
This comes out whenever we have team building activities.
Should I talk to my boss about applying for the about-to-be-vacant position of Team Leader (= sub-boss) in my department? Pros: it pays a lot more, it's supervisory experience for the resume (the position directly supervises our shelving team), I could stay in my department which I generally like, I think I could make a case that I could handle continuing to be the Grants Librarian and teaching classes while doing this role (being the Grants Librarian is the part of my job that I generally find most meaningful). Cons: I would basically be working for The Man as the administrative culture at my workplace is toxic and kind of insane and I have heretofore kept well away from that but this position mandates inclusion in it, plus I think I am not well suited temperamentally to supervising people (people, so exhausting, I barely have energy for my immediate family), a big part of the job is scheduling which is super-boring but really vital in our department of 30 people with a lot of part-timers working unusual hours.

This was pretty much my experience recently at a "Murder Mystery Scavenger Hunt". Personality mix is SUPER important, I think. That was most of what ruined what could have been a fun evening for me.
Tough call, flea. Sounds like something you could do well but, depending on your temperament, sometimes it's worth A LOT to avoid Politics and The Man. t /unhelpful
I am moving this question from F2F...
I need to hit up one of our liquor superstores to see about getting a new bottle of fancy Whiskey. Not sure if there is any more St. George's small batch whiskey out there, but if so, I want it.
I kinda want to set up a "birthday cocktail" station for the party tomorrow featuring whiskey, but I normally drink my whiskey straight. Never been a big fan of Manhattans or Whiskey Sours. What is a good "starter" whiskey cocktail?
Sazerac?
