"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

But what about cake vs. pie? When I was younger I was on Team Cake, but now I'm Team Pie all the way. Pecan pies in the winter, strawberry or blackberry in the summer...mmm....

Tricky one. It's all in the details, right?

Mr. Flea made me and Emmett some of the best pies I've had. So when you're alive to the fruit and the tart and the balance of sweetness and a perfect crust you've got something special.

But the place I go to for Matilda's bday cakes specializes in old school Austrian style cake making. Not too far from what you see on the Great British Bakeoff. But that was revelatory to get away from the dominance of buttercream frostings in America and sample cakes with whipped cream and mousse between the layers. Those can be exquisite and complex.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

today's news has just set my head of fire.

So I will think about cake instead. Maybe I will bake one tomorrow

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Good cake is excellent, as are good cookies, but I want to put in a word for mousse or creme brûlée--deliciousness you eat up with a spoon.

I must obey the inscrutable exhortations of my soul—Calvin and Hobbs

Good cake is really good and runs about even with good pie for me. But given a choice between mid-rate cake and mid-rate pie, I'll choose pie every time. Mid-rate deserts tend to substitute sweetness for flavor, and mid-rate cakes tend to be dry as well.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Scrappy reminds me -- did I ever post here about the chocolate mousse I made with aquafaba? Has anyone else used it? It's frigging magic!

hip deep in pie

I prefer making pies, but I like eating cakes.

Punishingly Intricate

Aquafaba!!! I haven't used it but my gf vegan friend was obsessed with it for a while so we talked about it a lot.

Our wings are not tired.

Pie! I can pass up cake easily, and cookies, but pie is the bestest.

I have to keep off FB today, if I can. My rage level is way over the top. Eye is twitching. I don't think more coffee is going to help either, but that is where I am headed now.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

It depends on the specifics of the pie or the cake for me. Given a choice of all desserts, I'd probably pick ice cream first.

I'm done with winter and would like it to go away now please. It's messing with my week and my pain levels.

call me jacki; zuisa is an internet nick from ancient times =)

Odd, we apparently refer to Girl Scout Cookie types differently in Massachusetts - my favorites are Peanut Butter Patties, which you all called Tagalongs. I haven't had any in years... I think I need to go find a Girl Scout.

I was watching msnbc last night while the Warren drama went down and I am livid. If reading the words of Coretta Scott King written in the 1980s are "impugning a Senator", well that that person probably just isn't qualified to be AG???

I sadly haven't read the full text of her letter yet but I will make sure to do that today.
