Now, I'm not sure it will be possible for the Dems to win in 2020 (assuming more voter restrictions), but I think trying to appeal to working class whites is a mistake.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

And now there is a proposal in the House to dismantle the Department of Education entirely.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Pence would be in a very weak position if he took the presidency after an impeachment. He'd have very little sway.

Surely not EVERY Republican wants to completely dismantle the government. Am I being naive?

They want to privatize everything including education and the post-office. Because (a) then they can profit form it; and (b) they truly believe in a ruling class which has the better things because they have money which means they are better people. They want a permanent uber-rich class which has so much power and sway that they can steal elections with impunity, and jail or quietly kill their enemies. You know - like Russia.

call me jacki; zuisa is an internet nick from ancient times =)

I've never really understood these Republican congresspeople who "hate government" and want to dismantle everything all while having their cushy work schedule and government benefits. And, you know, getting their salary from the government.

brillig

I could accept a feudal system if I thought our erstwhile feudal lords understood that it went both ways. Peasants may owe a feudal lord service, but the lord owed peasants support and holidays and two good feasts a year. And the peasants pretty much ran their own local courts. Richard III made sure those local courts were run in English, too, not Latin.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Yeah, you never hear about cutting the number of congresspeople, do you?

A dress should be tight enough to show you're a woman but loose enough to flee from zombies. — Ginger

OMG, flames! Side of face! Eyeballs boiling with rage!

Ahem.

"It is SUPER technical, but when it's published in mid-March, I can (illegally) send you the PDF. I just put a reminder on my calendar for that date."

That is really nice, Tep! Thank you!

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

I'd vote for you, Zen. I have been thinking about running for office, and considering how much talking to people that requires, that's amazing. But it's not like I have much of a career to abandon, so in some ways it would make sense.
