And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

That house is right across the St Marys from MY island! Buy it buy it buy it and I will visit you on a boat!

(Disclaimer: I do not actually own St Joseph Island. But I do own 1/48th of 2 log cabins in Hilton Beach. And it looks like this in the winter.)

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I have a question for the hivemind-- or possibly just flea--

I am looking into getting a passport, because I just feel I should have one. It says I need a birth certificate with my parent's names. I have a) a certificate of live birth which has a seal and signature, but no parent's names b) I ordered a birth certificate from NYS, but it appears that my mother never listed my father's name.

Does that mean I have to find some other sort of proof?

information libertarian

It's fine to have a birth certificate with only your mother's name. These are very common nowadays as you might imagine! When we were born the standards varied for how birth certificates were issued, but any birth certificate re-issued by the state now will conform to the current standards required for passports. Now, if they can't find a record of your birth, then you get into complications - but there are ways around that too.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

It says "full name of your parent(s)", so I think having just your mother would be ok. But flea would know better than I, for sure.

ETA: and there she is, knowing better than I do!

The State Department cashed my check for renewing my passport, so I'm hoping to get the new one soon.

Oh good! I am reassured that the one I ordered from NYS a couple of years ago should be OK. We ran into problems with my FAF in the early 90's because of this, so I get paranoid!

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

WHERE'S YOUR LONG-FORM BIRTH CERTIFICATE, SOPHIA???

If that IS your real name!!

You guys, I just walked past the Yemeni protest on my way home from work. That was really impressive.

Wow.

One morning, the cat was pilled and, on being released, jumped on my friend's shoulder, spat the pill into her shirt pocket, and jumped down and ran off.

Very different wow.

I kept bringing up that I had the same birth certificate as Obama every time people in my real life were "birthers"! Possibly that is what those of us with single mothers got in the 1970s (although I think his parents were married!)

Although now I am thinking I should possibly file for a real name change because all my recent things are N____ Brooks T_____ and my childhood things are N_____ Marie T______, because I informally changed my middle name.
