I know there's liberals that can literally go off their rocker, too, but the frequency at which conservatives abandon reason-based arguments for insults online is pretty telling. (Got in one too many "arguments with a friend-of-a-friend on Facebook today.)
Regarding trust-worthy news sources, I feel like CNN has descended into being somewhere just above clickbait at this point. I mean, I know on a certain level, journalism is about the number of eyeballs you can attract, but that seems to be the only thing there with them.
I find myself spending a lot of time reading The Atlantic, Washington Post, and the Chicago Tribune (though there's a lot of overlap there). I've also been following the author Jim Wright [link] who (though I don't always agree with him) has a pretty solid head on his shoulders and is good at breaking down what what actually have to happen to do things people suggest.
zuisa, I'm copy&pasting myself here, but ....
I say we celebrate. We celebrate every joyful moment that we can bear to. We celebrate each other. We celebrate victories miniscule and galactic. We celebrate our own worth and we celebrate the worth of every member of the human race. We celebrate the effort that somehow came to naught, and we celebrate the moments when everything simply comes together in a constellation of perfection and there is victory. We celebrate, because to give in to despair will leave us no strength to fight. We celebrate in grey dresses and monotone voices. We celebrate in jeweltones and arias. We will celebrate because this might be the Apocalypse and we have learned from Buffy that when we've done fighting this one, there will be another. We will celebrate because this might be Ragnaroc or it might be Armageddon but we will not go down without a fight. We will celebrate because joy only lives intermingled with grief. We will celebrate because every breath is a giant "Fuck you!" to the mundanity of evil.
Hi Sophia,
I am enjoying retirement tremendously. Although, lots of things are still up in the air and I still haven't found a part-time job to supplement my pension.
I'm watching Top Model which is totally an antidote to serious ;)
Hi zuisa!
Thanks for that, WindSparrow.
Hi meara!
Hi zuisa!
Andi that's beautiful.
I keep telling myself thrive to spite the fuckers.
I stepped away because it's effecting my mental health and also.making me feel bitter and mean spirited and I don't want that.
I keep telling myself thrive to spite the fuckers.
I love this, askye. Defiance and self-care and hope and anger all in one sentence. LOVE.
I am having a lot of trouble with the news so I have really been limiting my consumption and turning it all off when I go home to be with my family. But here is a funny I had to share - two law bloggers live blogging last night's Supreme Court pick:
Elie Mystal: Is there literally any person of color in the room right now?
David Lat: Trump - orange.
Glad y'all like it.
My therapist did too, he said I should make a t shirt and asked if he could use it as a motto for the trauma groups (without the profanity) I said sure.
To me it's not just living and living well it's especially doing things you wanted but not have done for whatever self doubt/societal expectation reasons.
