Every now and then, I think I might actually be a little odd.

Good-things~ma, hippocampus!

Connie, you relaxing into your own space is lovely to watch.

I could use some hang-on-to-the-job ~ma. Someone got fired from my department today, not an editor but still too close to home. Changes in the way our department manages our process meant his position was unnecessary. There are rumblings, and I'm feeling the earth move under my feet and not in the fun way.

This is not helping my nerves.

Because books.

All kinds of job~ma, Zen. That's so rough to go through.

Woot! Go Cubs!

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

Cubbies!

I left work around 8 and paused to check the score as I walked by the ESPN radio broadcast booth. There were a dozen or so homeless folks gathered there, watching the game and engaging in typical sports bar banter. 3rd inning, Cubs were up... I headed for my car. As I was getting into my car I heard a roar of cheers from the crowd I'd just passed through (plus the people in front of the Chicago Theatre). I missed the grand slam! And I couldn't get the game on radio until I got out of the garage and out from under the L tracks. It was neat to see that crowd enjoying the game though.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

Lots of ~ma for keeping your job, Zen.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

They can't fire you, Zen. They hardly let you take a vacation.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Yeah, being so indispensable you have to fight tooth and nail for a day off should be reassuring when people's jobs are in question. Though I know "should be" and "is" are two entirely different things.

My dad is getting really thrilled by the Cubs' chances now that they have some wins under their belts. I hope he does get to see them win the World Series, but instinctively expected them to take it to a 7th game so as to cause Chicago fans the maximum amount of heartbreak.

the hardest to learn / was the least complicated

I'd like to see the Cubs win, and not just because the Indians are the Reds' in-state rivals. (Although my dad told me last night that we have to root for the Indians because they're an Ohio team and "rivalries don't matter in the postseason." I told him that was crazy talk and called him a hippie. He laughed.)

Job~ma, Zen. Even if your position isn't at risk, it still makes for a tense work environment.
